Does anyone know if the are any alternative replacement options for the 400se setup (seperate disc on alloy bells) as i have just been quoted nearly four hundred pounds for a set of replacment rotors! Sod that for a game of cricket.

Do the granda vented discs as used on some of the other wedges fit?

FYI i have the Princess four pot calipers.

I don't think there is any interchangeability between the 400/450 and 350 etc. Out of interest, where did you get this price? The last set of rotors I had made by BG Developments were less than that, and they were machined from AP blanks, with grooves specified by me.

I think you could fit the Granada vented disks but you would need different spacers for the caliper and there would be some pad overhang as I think the Granada disks are a slightly smaller diameter. Personally I'm not sure I would do it as it would be a step back. Cheers Steve

Can't see any reson why you cannot retro fit the 350 granny discs, worse case scenario will mean you have to buy a set of granny calipers too, may be worth having a word with Steve Heath or Tower view racing, Im sure they sell a brake kit for 300 mm discs, this means they must sell the discs on their own, what diameter are your discs? Maybe worth going to a friendly motor factors to see if you can find a similar sized disc with the same offsets etc, may just need to drill extra holes in it.
all the best

Have not Mondeo discs and calipers been fitted to Wedges ?

Might be worth investigating.

I've just gone from 400SE to 390SE, and to be honest I can't tell any difference as regards brakes. I suppose the important thing is that they are working correctly and decent pads fitted. Steel braided brake lines give a useful improvement to brake feel (and safety), at about 40 quid a set.

There the Dutch fella who offers I believe modded Tuscan brake kits for the Wedge.

Whatever he has looks great and will just fit inside 15" rims.

I'm stuck in the US so have not access to his contact info.

Let me know if you need it.

That Ebay ad only covers Wedges up to '88, so will exclude those with separate bells, i.e. 400/450. There's no way he could be selling the correct rotors for £20!

Hans http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?mem...

was selling the Tuscan calipers and rotors, but they will be a sight more expensive than buying the 400/450 rotors alone.

Anything aftermarket will cost a significant chunk of cash. IMHO you are better of with the standard rotors (unless you track he car, in which case an upgrade would be worthwhile).

I have heard of original rotor replacement a good few years ago - Martin (Redcar) had his replaced on his 450 se - cost was huge hundreds if I remember right. Austec sourced them. TVRCarParts have also have a contact.

Why not - it's only a £1 lump of steel, machined a bit.

The mark-up on some of this stuff is unbelievable, for example coil springs cost little over 2 quid to make...

I agree that the value is in the machining rather than the raw material, but these rotors are of a size that seem to be pretty unique to TVR, and even more specialised in that only around 300 cars would have had these fitted in production. It's a very small volume part, which does occasionally need replacing. I am happy to pay for a product machined from an AP blank, by a respected supplier, even if I may be paying slightly over the odds. I would hope that there would be far less chance of a fault developing, compared to a product sourced from, lets say, a less well known supplier, and if a fault did develop, I would hope that there would be a better chance of a satisfactory outcome with the more rspected supplier.

Just my preference when it comes to things like brakes.

Mmm looks like i've no choice but to stump up the moolah rolleyes

The price i was quoted was £314+Vat from a local engineering firm, were the rotors from BG developments much cheaper Paul? If so i'll give em a ring.

The last set were around the £300 mark, was about 5 years ago, and I did have them grooved as well. Worthwhile getting a new set of the securing nuts and bolts as well.

£350 to 400 from BG Developments, so not a great deal cheaper if at all.
