Here's a pic of what's on the car (Rev, don't look, I just had to weld the seam at the top and the MIG was out of gas ;^) so it's a bit like rice krispies....)

As you can see it starts with a 3-bolt flange and ends just before it goes out of the rear valance, where that U-clamp is. It's an over the driveshaft jobbie.

I need a pipe in stainless to replace it, any recommendations for people who make them that fit without too much fettling?

Hi Adam

I had one bespoke made on the 350i i had, it was made in Tyneside, obviously other end of the country for you.

Being homest i cannot see the point in having the back end made in stainless when the rest remains carbon.

Bite the bullet and get the full lot in stainless, expensive i know but once it is done no more clarting on.

My new stainless system is being fitted by Selby TVR next week...apparently being made in Mansfield area.

ACT worked out about the same on price, but longer delivery time.

I believe they're all 'custom made' now. Mine is the same as 400SE.

Complete system from most people will be around £425 + vat + delivery.

I'm having to moonlight as a Chippendale to pay for mine. frown

Whats the diameter of the pipe and the angle of the top right bend? Is it a 45 degree or a 90? Are all the other bend angles 90 degrees?
I have some 2 inch stainless push fittings that might do the job.

p.s. you are becoming quite famous for your welding smile I remember the bumper mounting too!

Yeah I have a weepy diff too, but it isn't too bad. Will top it up soon.

The pipe is a little larger than 2" diameter - more like 4.5-5".

I have a stainless centre box to stick in, which is nice and shinney, Rob and Alan! So I need a pipe to go with it, I estimate this one has no more than 6 months life left. It's a bit crap that it's only lasted 21 years....

So can you ask them how well it fitted and whether they can recommend the supplier?

Baldrick, is isn't small, it's just far away!

Actually I did exaggerate a tad, it's 2.5" I.D. or 63mm (measuing the output pipe on the centre box).

Incidentally do you have to use a triangular gasket to join the pipe onto the centre box, if so where do you get 'em? Or will assembly paste do?

Hi Adam,

That pipe looks very like the RT racing stainless one I have which I believe is interchangeable with the standard pipe.

The gasket you ask about is a standard part just take the old one down to you local exhaust place and they can match it, In my case they couldn't be bothered to charge me either biggrin

Cheers, I'll set aside an hour or two to phone Richard and ask about his pipe ;^)

Have you fitted the RT one - how easy did it go on?

Seems that a replacement is about £250 - that's quite steep for a pipe with no silencing.

So I've been looking at pipe bits on ebay and the like, looks like I need about 3m of straight pipe, two 90 degree bends and a 45 degree bend, and a flange.

So far the total cost of bits is about £110. Plus I'll need some more gas and stainless wire for the mig. Hmmm, tempting....

At least I'll know it'll fit!

Hi Adam,

The RT pipe was fitted by RT for the previous owner, I have had the rear section off as while it was OK it was too low on the nearside and the drive shaft was ttting it.

I suspect the only way to get a perfect fit would be to get a custom system tailored to fit your car, the RT exhaust was probably fine, just my car didn't quite fit it biggrin
