YEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wet through all the pre-start checks thoroughly, read "ideally you would" as "you must" when doing the wiring and earths and stuff, and when the time came it fired and ran first turn of the key.
Got it warmed up, fettled the idle fuelling, so now its time to reset REQ_FUEL and start the tuning. Wicked fun.
Even with the slightly rich fuelling it had on the first start, it started and ran with an altogether better idle than the flaper was ever able to give.
Well chuffed, and thumbs up for Phil Ringwood of Extra-efi. Jobs a good'un.

Cool, glad youve got it going and that your happy with it. It really is a world apart from the flapper ECU,I wet through all the pre-start checks thoroughly, read "ideally you would" as "you must" when doing the wiring and earths and stuff, and when the time came it fired and ran first turn of the key.

Cool, i think there might be quite a few of us that'd find the write up useful, i'm a gnats cock away from buying one.
Mine's been running like a bag of spanners just off-idle this weekend, so I might be joining you. Although to be fair I think it's an ignition fault, not the squirty bits.... saw 7000rpm in 2nd at one stage, still pulling

As well as writing it up you could make a kitof parts up, I'm sure loads of people would buy them if they had very little research work to do

cheers

I think Phil (daxtojeiro) pretty much sells one and for less than it would cost to buy just an Omex 710 without the rest of the gear needed. There are plenty of arguments about reliability and ease of use that could be made, but the MS looks to be very good vfm if you are looking to self fit rather than hand the car over to be done.

Pretty sure I am going to go for a MS on the 400SE, I just don't have the time to sort it at the moment. I do work in IT and have an electronics engineering background too so maybe the whole MS concept is something that perhaps I feel comfortable with though.
ETA - Well done Ed, would love to hear more, especially on how you get on with the setup. Are you using a wideband lambda to map it yourself? Planning to go to a RR?

Ok, from the top of my head you need:

Fuel Only Setup: (Allows you to throw the AFM away and use either TPS or MAP sensor which is built in to MS ECU.)
Option 1) ECU, Bare ended loom and an air temp sensor.
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/MS_All_products.htm#Only...
Option 2) MegaSquirt PnP for the 14CUX from V8D (This inc an air temp sensor)
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/RV8_Kits.html#pnp
Wasted Spark: (Again throw the AFM away and run without the distributor)
Option 1) ECU, bare ended loom, air temp sensor, 36-1 wheel, crank sensor, crank sensor bracket, 2 x coil packs, HT leads, tacho adaptor (EDIS8 module if going the EDIS8 route)
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/RV8_Kits.html#wasted
Option 2) MegaSquirt PnP for the 14CUX from V8D with the wasted spark option.
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/RV8_Kits.html#pnp
Fitting options:
DIY or V8D will do it all for you.
Tuning options:
DIY or V8D or most good rolling roads.

Cheers all, yeh Im using the TechEdge 2J1 controller for feedback. I may take it to the rollers if I can find someone willing to either let me sit there with a laptop mapping away or is au fait with Megatune and MS2.
Dead busy this week, but will try and find some time to write it up. Bottom line: Spend plenty of time fitting the Crank wheel and VR sensor and the Lambda system (tail end of the drivers side header on a wedge seems to do the trick, just under 3 feet downstream of the valves), and the rest will be fairly straightforward. Solder the terminals, dont just crimp them, DON'T use scotchloks (yuk), and dont be afraid when the time comes to chonk the old ecu connector off the loom. There is about 3 spare feet of wire in the ecu loom on a Wedge!!
You can run it on the old ecu with the Lambda and crank trigger system in there. I did this to see how the VR signal was shaping up. VR sensor wants to run about half a mm from the teeth - so make sure you fit it to a sturdy braket. Any low frequency first modes of resonance in the bracket might just be bad news for the sensor tip... I used 3mm steel plate.
Gotta go!
