Can a Kenlow fan motor be overhauled? Was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, but stopped working (first it slowed down and then slowly died on me while investigating). The electric circuit, including override is fine.
Have to plan routes now with limited traffic, and that worked fine until now and an occasional 'detour' rotate to get there. But still annoying.

Just would like to know if there is a chance of overhauling/repair or to bin it straight away?

Thanks, Rob

I wouldn't have thought that they're designed to be repairable if my old Davies Craig fan motor was anything to go by. The insides corroded, and everything got very crunchy. Time to replace the motor - you should be able to buy that separately, without the blades.

Probably a 'sealed' assembly (crimped, rivetted, something like that)... if you can get in you'll probably find the armature is black as hell and the carbon brushes will be tired.
Another possibility (if the impeller is mechanically stiff) is that the bearings are shot, in which case the windings could be cooked due to the current of the stalled motor... but then it would probably have been blowing fuses as well.

Your call... biggrin

I replaced the bearings in mine once - it's not worth the effort!

Does the fan turn by hand ? If it does but fells lumpy then it's the bearing (as wedg1e has stated )

The fan can be taken a part and the bearing serviced, as the round backing plate is held on by 4 screws.

I had to buy a new Fan complete (ebay) as the blade was broken on the orignal, so I dismantled the old one.

Whilst trying to part the back from the main body I bend the main shaft, then couldn't get the thing back together.
The good news is it spun much better..but wobbley.

It's in the bin now but if you like I will get it out and can post some pic's of the thing unasembled ?

Replaced mine only a few weeks ago with a Davis Craig one bought in the UK for just over £100, arrived next day. All works fine now. Here is a link to the company, the fan is a DC31

Hi Rob, I have a working fan but the cowling is broken. Maybe you could make a good one up with your cowling if you are interested.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer, but picking it up would be more then buying an alternative as I live in Belgium.....
