easy question on plenum

Yep it's the cold start injector, no you don't need it. They're usually far too rich at cold idle anyway.
The need may be debatable in the coldest of UK winters such as 2010. It can be worked around by pumping the accelerator when cranking but batteries might also be affected at the same time due to low temperatures. Are you sure about the idle mixture thing? The CSI is only energised when cranking and is not functional when idling, cold or hot, so cannot affect mixture at idle. Check this out
That's a flapper system like mine. The cold start injector only works to start a cold engine, not to controll cold idle. I use my car every day & throughout the winter, after I re connected it, it made a noticeable difference to cold starting. If you only use the car in the summer it'll probably start ok but in the winter, on a daily basis, I've noticed a significant difference. So yes, you will see the benefit of it if it's used for what it was designed for.

Cheers guys, that's what I thought. My only concern was maybe the ECU was trying to substitute it when it is disconnected. Bit like 'limp home mode'. It recognises a fault and alters things to suit, but seems not. Engine out today for the cleanup and new clutch.
Nope the Lucas clockwork 4CU ain't that clever, I got rid of mine too as the car now has a hotwire plenum and the CS injector got in the way of the coil packs. As been said before it's not really needed, I know mine fired up with no problems even though it was under quite a bit of snow, the ECU does increase the injector duration when cold anyway so the CS injector was really belt and braces.
