Just spotted this on ebay, looks in pretty good shape apart from the engine issues
Just wish I had the cash to spare frown

I'd say it was well worth a tinker, assuming chassis isn't shot. smile

He 'loves this car' but allows it to sit in that condition for 5 years+
Shame, looks nice. Could well end a bargain for someone

Would have been better for him to pay somone to finish it, all depends on finances though.
Re the 5 years Depends on what's gone on in his life, mine sat im my garage for 5 years in bits, due to building up a business and then going though a very bad patch, but have allways loved my 400SE.

If only I had the insurance money in my hands, as that would be ideal for me frown

Be a shame to break it up though to fix yours, esp as it does not seem to need much doing.

Could you not borrow the money, and then pay it back when you get paid out

Why the hell not, 99% of polices will give you fire cover. not sure they can say it was not on fire.

Probably worth a punt at up to £4k, but don't think I'll get an answer from insurance co in 8 days frown

Looks like the final bid was £3k, up to a couple of days ago I was the only person to actually go and see it. There,s a green one on ebay that looks quite interesting but it's too far from me.

biggrin I seem to remember you having a little pop at me for commenting on another 400 recently, but anyway it looked like it had the potential to be a very good car, the body looked sound and maybe it will be back on the road for not too much effort and dosh, I thought if all went well you could make it good for around a couple of thousand, if it didn't go well then buying a sorted car made more economic sense to me. Hopefully the new owner will let us know how it works out.

Any 'pops' I have at anybody on this forum will have been under the influence of rum. biggrin

Anyway, pretty good assessment on your part I'd say. smile

I'd expect any decent condition 400SE to make a minimum £5,000 - so worth spending a few quid on it.
