Gave her a good clean, fed the leather, shampooed all the carpets as it's been hot here today.

Took her for about 8 miles and about 3 miles from home there was a 'twang'. At first I didn't realise what it was but the temp gauge rose very quickly, I guessed it was the belt and limped about 2 miles to somewhere safe to park up (temp gauge very high by now!

True enough the belt had gone. I left her for about 30 minutes then drove the last mile home. She lost about 1/2 pint of water.

Is there anything I should look out for that may have been damaged once I get a new belt.

I assume check hoses for splits, but could anything else be damaged?

TIA

Dave , do you mean water pump belt as you've probably got an electric fan ?

Hi Steve, you know my technical limits hehe

There is what I think is the water pump near the top left hand side of the engine with a wheel at the end of it where the belt should be. Apologies, I thought it would be the fan belt, but yes it does have an electric fan.

It is also known for TVRs and wedges to 'throw' the belt under hard acceleration and high revs. Difficult, but I would check for the alignment of the pulleys to see if it could have been the cause.
And installation not to overtension the new belt.
Getting a replacement belt you can use a rope or something to measure (doesn't need to be very precise) as there are many possibilities and getting the length close to the current setup is well worth instead of 'guessing' to take the right one home....

Thats interesting Dave - if you remember when I borrowed the wedge I had a quick peek under the bonnet and the belt was inside out perched on the very front edge of the pulleys.
I popped it back on the pulleys but it was really really loose so I tightened it up - I didn't go mad but maybe the belt got weakened running the wrong way round.

I just bought a new belt for the V8S from Halfords - I think it will be the same one a HB1125C.

Sounds like you'll be OK, with that small amount of coolant loss and not caning it.

The V8 is quite forgiving if you keep it watered and oiled.

Bung on a new belt, top up, and enjoy!

Thank you all smile

I feel reassured now.

Chris, yes I remembered, as Rob says maybe it's out of line somehow.

Blaine, hope to see you at AF, I didn't make it last month.

Oh well, at least I got the tyres done on the V8S todaysmile
