Cowling where's it from?
Discussion
Can anyone tell me from where/what car the original steering column cowling comes from.
As some poor, disadvantaged lad from a broken home most probably, decided to try and take my car as he didn't have one himself and felt it unfair that I did, it's all a crying shame really!!!
Anyway I digress, the point is the thieving scum smashed the cowling and I need to replace it.
Any help will be gratefully recieved.
Taff
PS I forgot it's for a series 2 350i ( D reg )

Welcome to the forum Taff,
Somebody else by the name of Taff asked this one back last June
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=44003&f=12&h=0&hw=steering+column+cover
Anyway its most likely to be TR7.
You coming to BBWF? Cos if your in Wales why not tag along with us.

Hi Taff,
The original donor of the steering column can be best identified by the type of bulkhead bearing you have. If the bearing is just a bit of white nylon, it is TR7, if it is a proper bearing, then SD1. Also the lower column of the SD1 is concertina'ed for impact whereas the TR7 one has a telescoping centre held in place by a big fat steel clamp.
If you have a TR7 one, they come in two flavours, The early left hand key entry and the post 1980 right hand key entry designed for the LHD TR7 variant. Beware that you need to hacksaw off a bit to make it fit flush to the dash. (Well mine is like that anyway).
If you have a left hand key entry, then you are in luck , as I have a very good spare, since I am converting to right hand key entry.
Hope this helps.

I was ready to fit this but a friend has broken a Tasmin racer and I've acquired the brakes from this.
There is a very detailed description in the Maintenance section of tvrwedgepages.co.uk that describes how to do it. With my kit you'd have everything except the discs. I believe the 4 pot calipers will fit straight onto standard solid discs without the spacer kit.
Cheers
