Morning all,

Finally got back in to the UK about midnight last night after an eventful ring trip, and I'll post some photos on here once they become available. Anyway the trip over there was fine, and a few successful laps were had.

Unfortunately the car is still in germany and is currently going through the process of being repatriated to the UK. The reason for this, is quite simply the cooling fan self-destructed and in the process sent a blade through my nice shiny new rad. So I'm going to be on the lookout for a spare rad & cooling fan, if anybody knows a wedge being broken let me know and I might well take those bits of their hands for a few beer tokens.

Another problem that was noted was that prior to this happening on the last lap we completed (and completely unrelated) the car developed a flat spot at around 5,500rpm, so I started taking it a bit easier but before we completed the lap the flat spot had dropped to 4,800rpm and trying to push through this result in a lot of popping, banging, and backfiring. I won't have the car back from Germany for a few days, but would anyone be willing to speculate as to what could be causing this? It's a 350i flapper system and I'm guessing MAF, vacuum leak somewhere or possibly the ECU?

Also, having a friend with ADAC cover is priceless, and I highly recommend it to everyone travelling abroad! We also had a second car breakdown on the return through Belgium and in both cases ADAC had a van out and in attendance within about 60mins, with both cars now being returned to the UK addresses (max delivery time is 5 days).

On the upside the Eifel mountains are an absolute dream to drive through, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable few days. The sun was out constantly, and the roof was never up! Oh, and the Germans really aren't that bad especially as they're big fans of cars and beer!
