Boys and girls a few scary pictures to focus the mind.

The ouriggers are in very good condition. From underneath all looks good until the sills were removed eek The hole on the right hand side was where the seat belt was mounted - completely rotted away.

Could'nt understand why the rear shocker did'nt seem to sit central.

Worn and perished bushes caused the slot in the chassis and the one worn in the Koni shocker..

Other things I found were cracked petrol pipes, rotted hose clips and the overflow broken off the tank.

I'm not trying to scare anyone and I know this car has'nt been cared for, as most of yours are, but its worth bearing in mind our cars are 20+ years old. Time has'nt been kind to this old lady (F reg 350i). What worried me was the level of rust around the seat belt mount - it literally pulled out.

Might be worth a prod around your car especially if you are new to the marque or you are considering that bargain motor!

Hear endeth the sermon smile

My SEAC's body will be off in the next week so am waiting with baited breath.

After any repairs I'm going for hot dip galvanising to end the onset rust for good.

Plus intending to add some splash guards behind the front wheels to stop the stones hitting the outriggers.

What bait are you using Phil - maggots or lugworms? ;^)

Nooooooo! I heard of a chimp owner doing this - ended up with a very twisted chassis. It never rusted again, but was useless.

I am lucky ... after a serious oil leak back in 2002, the whole underside of mine was completely coated in a mixture of dust and oil.
I remember back in 2007, Peninsula Auto's servicing the car and commenting the chassis looks almost new when you scrape the thick oily goo off the chassis tubes !!! smile

It is fine, thank you smile
As built in 1986 it seems that is was a good chassis and wine year.
