400se won't start after replacing clutch (maybe alarm??)
Discussion
Guys,
We really need some help here...
We have replaced the clutch in my 400se by lifting & moving the engine forward. Afterwards we have lowered it and put everything together again. Now comes the problem, it won't start....
We have tried the following:
- Check sparkplugs and ignition > result ok
- Check fuelpump > result ok
- Check starting with fuel injected in the plenum > engine fires imediately and runs
- Check fuses and relaise > result ok
- Try other ECU > makes no difference
Conclusion that we have come up with is that it might be the alarm (probably original from a company called laserline).
Does anybody have experience with this or any other ideas what it could be?
Thanks!

have you put the fuel flow and return pipes on the correct way round on the pressure regulator and fuel rail. Easy to do, cos I did on mine although I realised before trying to start it. I must have been
i would agree with this, have you removed the fuel pipe at the inlet and turned the ignition on?
There is a wire (white black or black white) from the ignition amplifier that provides the signal to the ECU to inject fuel: no connection, no signal, is no fuel.....
This wire has a connector close to the airflow meter, which can cause this issue. I had to use some tape on my wedge to make sure it stays connected properly!
Alarm related: if you had the battery disconnected for a long time it could be it, and resetting it you probably tried. Otherwise I cannot help you on the alarm. Do you know what alarm brand and type it is? Then perhaps a knowledgeable person can be tracked down to advise on this.

Just a thought but my 400se wouldn't start after some tinkering whilst replacing the inlet manifold. After much tracing/testing of wires i found that the 2 yellow wires to the inertia switch had come off, thereby isolating the fuel pump. The inertia switch is a little black box located on the driver's side inner wing near the bulk head.

The 400 is finally running again and we must have been asleep too :-) At least one of my mates has his name written high on the wall of shame in the garage...
Thanks everybody for the help!

) Spent an hour one day fixing my mates bike, before he told me that he should be pulling the clutch in while trying to start it. He had only had the bike for 2 years though
