my boot does not consistently open when using the remote switch, is there an earth that could be the problem or is it something else. solenoid was replaced a couple of years ago so assume thats not the problem.

If you get the right noise (clicking), then pressing the release button and lifting the bootlid at the same time, is what it does for me to being able to lift the lid before it locks again...
No clicking, then cleaning the contacts, and make the mechanism that moves goes smooth again is the other alternatives to just making sure the earth is ok.

On my car the boot opened electrically by a button near the left knee of the driver. I had a problem when the wire leading back to the boot became worn and fractured underneath the central console near the gear lever. Suffice it to say, after the rebuild thre is now an additional manual release.

Mine was getting harder to get to work a little while ago - then suddenly stopped altogether
It was only a corroded contact that once cleaned has worked ok since

Hopefully not spoiling the thread Andrew, but my car is now handling like a sports car should. It is very taught with the extra strengthening inside the chassis, the tubes down the side inside the car and across the foot well to support the pedals. These with the roll-over bar allows and I can feel the suspension doing its job. Noticeably where there is bump in a corner there is now a small definite skip and then it sticks whereas before I got the feeling of not being sure.

By the way that joke about needing gull-wing doors can be swallowed by the perpetrator, the inside tubes look great.
