any idea what these are? do? or fit?

They look like ballast resistors.
Could be in circuit to drop the voltage from 12v to 7v for the coil. There should be a bypass for when the engine is actually cranking on the starter but normal running would be through the resistor.
Another possibility would be ballast for the heater fan. TVR weren't quite so bad as this so it looks as though they could be fitted after-market or by an owner/repairer.

Cheers guys,
I thought they were resistors but any idea what they are physically mounted to?
Cheers

Ah they go on the chassis in the engine bay, just behind the L/H spring housing/below were the body meets, there is a studs welded there and a 12mm nylok nut.I thought they were resistors but any idea what they are physically mounted to?

I can confirm that are for the dim (err... second off setting) on the dash panel lights. Took me ages to figure out what they where supposed to do, mainly because they where both so badly corroded and didn't actually do anything, they where quickly installed in the bin.
The DIM dip is a square black lucas box with 6 terminals velcro'd to the carpet somewhere near the fusebox, on my car it's functinality was about the same as the panel light resistors and it's fate identical.

I'm not sure why they did not use a potential divider, and have a varying brightness like on most cars. The DIM dip is a square black lucas box with 6 terminals velcro'd to the carpet somewhere near the fusebox, on my car it's functinality was about the same as the panel light resistors and it's fate identical.
