Steering Shake 390 se
Discussion
Hi,I wonder if anyone has any suggestions which would pin point where the steering shake on my 390se is coming from.
I have already had the wheels balanced and changed the front tie bar bushes but before i move on and change the drop link bushes i want to be sure that this isnt something sinister.
The shaking starts at around 50 mph and doesnt dissappear as you some times find you can drive through it, it gets noticably worse by 80 mph its bad enough to cause you to slow down.
The car has just been MOT'd and nothing was detected in the test.
I do have a set of 17 inch non standard alloys on the car and wondered if this may be affecting handling in some way as the alloys don't have hub locators just sit on the studs.
Any suggestions would be greatfully received.
Regards Paul

Wouldn't be coming from the bulkhead bush would it? On my '83 model there was just a nylon bush supporting the column as it passed through, it allowed a lot of shudder particularly on bumpy roads. I had it replaced with a solid looking steel bearing which instantly made the steering feel steadier. This wouldn't be the cause of the vibrations you're feeling, but would emphasise them.
