Guys

Do the 280i engines have 'normal' problems with hot starting?

Or would it perhaps be a problem with either a relay breaking down or the starter solenoid after a good run out in the hot sun?

It does start again after about 15 mins of cooling down which is not ideal sat in the petrol station!!

I had problems with mine - would take it for a run and it would not always start until I left it to cool down - strange as it might seem the problem was with the earthing on the vehicle - I changed the main earth lead to the battery. I not had a problem since - this could be your problem or it could be fuel related of course - vapourisation perhaps.
Cheers

Starter solenoid sticking. Had the same on the 390SE a few months ago - and that was a repeat occurrence from a few years back. Strip, clean, reassemble. scratchchin Think there was a thread about it a short while back...

I've never ever had a warm starting problem with the 280i (14 years). Did have a big problem with the Jensen which turned out to be the fuel pump. Has anyone had problems with the shaft from the clutch slave cylinder jamming with the throwout bearing yolk? All of a sudden stuck unable to get into any gear. Fixed with some welding, re-engineering and money. I'm in love with it again.
Back to yours, no, it is not normally a tough hot restart car.
