Beer Barrel Wedge Fest
Discussion
Hi all,
as a change from the usual dearth of real ale at Ettington, I was considering getting in a barrel of Hook Norton Bitter, to be installed in the function room for the evening.
This should work out at £2.75 a pint, but it all has to be drunk!
This is how it will work - there will be an honesty box next to the barrel, and you buy special raffle tickets from me (or whoever's on duty) at £2.75 each or 4 for £11. Each time you have a pint - pop a ticket in the box.
However I need pledges to guage how many pints we'll get through, to find out if it'll be worth it. Any profits will go towards the charity.
I'll go first =
Adam 6 pints (minimum)

Hook Norton is a very fine beer. And if there is a volunteer arranging to supply it then that sounds fine to me. There are other excellent beers such as the ones mentioned and a few others, but Hook Norton Old Hooky should suit a variety of palates.
Alas, I am currently carless and my piggy bank is now somewhat depleted, so may not be able to attend. I've been working on a few ideas for projects to generate a new fortune to keep me in the manner that I have become accustomed to, but seem to be stymied by import duties and VAT. Did you know, you pay import duty on the value of something which is the sum of the price paid PLUS cost of transport to UK and then you pay VAT on that lot. It's driving me bonkers!
Anyone know any rich old widows?
If I manage to acquire a new (old) heap of bits, will it be OK if I pitch up in a non-Wedge shed?
If I do not manage to make it, please each of you have a pint of the Old Hooky for me.
By the way - has this been cleared with the hotel?
JJ
What's this I read about Southern Softies? Eight pints of Abbott is my usual ration, but I sometimes go over this. At this point I suddenly decide I don't want to cook when I get in so I decide to get fish and chips on the way home - and so then have more beer. This is how I keep my elegant frame in trim! If I do make it, I'll reserve eight pints please.
And it should be Old Hooky by Hook Norton - HK standard bitter is a bit 'thin' for us 'full bodied bitter' afficionados.

The way to cease talking jibberish after 5 or 6 pints is to practise, practise, practise. Practise makes perfect.
That is to say, drink 7, 8 or 9 pints every day for some time. Thus you raise the level at which jibberish commences. Medical professionals call this desensitisation, and use the method in the treatment of allergies. So you obviously have an allergy that kicks in at 5 or 6 pints. Drink more and raise the threshold - the problem will go away and you will enjoy life once again.
Simple really.
