There's a crunching and a whirling noise coming from the gearbox... I think ...so I guess it has to come out and get tinkered with, so my helper says.

Silly girlie question ...but what box did TVR fit to my 450SE

Not that it will make difference one way or another.....but I will be more informed.smile

Same gearbox as rover SD1 3500
Might be worth trying Thames Transmissions on Canvey. Very good + good prices

........And did you get it back in less than five months? and is it now as good as new? Nice and quiet? Has it got smaller mounting holes than the one that got sent? ;-)

Hi Mike,

Exactly two weeks turn around.

Possibly not as good as new (1988) as still using the very same gearset but other parts changed.

Quiet, I'll tell you later.

Mounting holes are the same.

You had problem?

Try this - Whilst your driving, push down hard on the gear stick. If it makes crunching noises then it's not the box itself but the remote. Could save you a fortune in repairs.

Too much power being put through the LT77 mine went on the 450SE. Waited months and months for my box to come back, then it came back with smaller mounting holes than was on the one I sent which was a neat trick! Then twice what was quoted. Then not ideal when I got it back either.

Whoever you use jot down the serial numbers on the box, agree a price as best you can, ensure that they use the same ratios and quality parts and agree a time line especially if you have the car stuck with its ass hanging out on a local garage's spare ramp for months! ;-)

When I had my 400SE box refurbed after it jammed in 4th on the way to Le Mans one year I was told it was actually a Jaguar spec box.

The LT77 was used in various BL products from Sherpas to Jaguars using the same casing but different internals depending upon usage.

The Jag box uses bigger bearings and can handle more power so make sure you don't exchange your box for a standard Rover SD1 unit.

We picked the box up today....

We have two coggy looking things that look a little worn out
in the bootrolleyes plus a rather clean looking gleaming box

The main drive shaft has some wear along with the other bit that picks up from it apparently smile

There's bits of it missing - all ground up I guess yikes

Anyway thanks to 3D Transmissions for turning it round in less than a week now the helper
has to bolt all the bits back in...so I can go drivingagain

There's two rubber mounts on the box missing though so I'm told..

Anyone know where they come from ?

Jill, i would bet those rubber mounts are still fixed to the car if they have broken off the box, would'nt have thought they would brake off at both ends.Check to make sure it has oil in it before it goes in!
