need to replace my master clutch cylinder in my '84 280. Have heard there is a kit out there but also heard about it not working that great. Also would like to know what car the master cylinder came out of because it is not listed for the 280 on the parts list just a 350 and thought it might be a little different. I know the slave is out of tr7 but heard that the master was not. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

I thought the 280's used a cable clutch, unless it's had an upgrade.
The 350 ones are so cheep its not worth getting a seal kit.

The seal kit for the 280i is the same as for the bigger wedges, and possibly came from a Mk1 Marina. smile

The master cylinder usually has a casting number on the side (64676310 from memory)... quote that to a Lucas-Girling stockist and they should be able to do you a seal kit.

The first 50 or so Tasmins had a concentric hydraulic clutch-release (a la SAAB) inside the bellhousing. Allegedly it was a tad expensive as it was bespoke so they switched to a cable lash-up.
My '80 Tasmin had a ludicrously slight weep from the slave cylinder and I searched high and low to get replacement seals for it, before using a universal O-ring kit and keeping fingers crossed. As I recall it used an O-ring and a nylon washer; the cylinder itself was/is quite large diameter so I guess they wear very slowly (mine had 100,000 miles on it).

Concentric clutch noses are great... until they go wrong................

When they need removal, which requires engine out...
