Hi there

I'm currently making my Wedge 350i ready for it's MOT. I live in Belgium and therefore the chassis number is checked on the car when passing for MOT. I know of older English cars that they had no chassis number, only a VIN plate.

Can someone tell if a Wedge has a chassis number and where it is located?

I've never seen one, only the VIN on a plate on the wing in the engine bay, and the engine number on the block.

7.

Mine had one stamped into the front offside suspension turret on the plate that faces in towards the engine at an angle. Not easy to spot as it is only lightly stamped, a good torch and some fine emery paper should bring it up.

Chassisnumber as mentioned before, but it is difficult to read even if you clean it up and angle of view (MOT experience in Holland, but they are not too difficult as it had MOTs in the past and therefore it must be ok.....).

Interested in your experience, as plan to import my Dutch wedge into Belgium hopefully this year. At least Marc Minne can provide the 'gelijkvormigheidsattest' (=Belgium homologation certificate) for my 350i, otherwise it would be difficult and very time consuming. But will prepare the chassisnumber to not run into any arguments during the Belgium MOT.

Good luck with the MOT,

Rob

Thanks all for the info. I'll check it out during the weekend.

@Rob: I'm planning to register the car on an 'O plate' (oldtimer) so I dont need the certificate. This can be done because I don't wanne drive it on a daily basis and this also comes with some restrictions. Do need a clear chassis number though.

if there is no number embossed into the chassis and the local MOT wants one...ok...he gets one:

emboss it yourselves into one of the chassis tubes...so what is the problem?

Was considering an O-plate myself, but think it is too restrictive in the use for myself (like to drive it a lot and further then 25km from where I live, etc). It seems there is a 'classic' test as well (requiring a certificate probably), but the car needs to be checked every year like any other.
