My 1990 450se is running very poorly. It seems to be running very rich, the gas milage stinks and won't idle to save its life. I've had it at a local garage and they don't have a clue. I'm in the US so trying to find someone to work on it is a real challange. If anyone knows of a garage within a reasonable driving distance that is familier with the car, please let me know. I live in Pennsylvanis USA. If anyone wishes to contact me do it off site at aghbop@aol.com. HELP!!!!!

Probably best to take it to a Range Rover specialist......they should know the engine inside out.

Engine temperature sensor!

Take off the plug and short out the two holes in the plug. Then try running it, if it's better, order a new sensor.

Tony - If nothing has gone crunch it's probably an electrical (ECU or sensor) issue. There have been a number of troubleshooting posts in the past year (and there may be some guidance in the Wedge Epistles).

I'd follow those or print off a couple and have a BC type shop do it. It's all basic values, corrosion or sometimes bad ECU board solder joints. There is a engine temperature sensor and the ECU to harness connection that are aways on the list too.

If you had to tear down the engine I think I take it out for them. People are just scared of TVRs.

Hi Tony, sorry to hear that you're still having trouble. Did none of the things which I emailed you about in February work then? As said here, the coolant temp sensor can be troublesome, and is easily and cheaply changed.
