Greetings from NZ

Still enduring the nightmare that is trying to get an imported car on the road in NZ.

I am required to prove that less than 20,000 400SE's were made per annum!! Anyone know where I can actually find proof of this? I believe 242 were made but how do I prove it????

I've spoken to Jim (TVRCCNZ) who was going to write a letter but it's never turned up and I can't seem to contact him.

I kinda need this proof within 24hrs!

Timbo,

I've certainly seen production figures quoted in Graham Robson's books on TVR's. If it might help I could scan over the relevant pages. You might also try the Model Registrar at the TVRCC: Grant Crouch. If you want his phone / email address, pm me.

A scan of the relevant page(s) would be fantastic (tradeus@ihug.co.nz) or I guess you could just upload it onto here and I can copy and paste it. I've sent an urgent begging email to the TVRCC too!

Thanks a million!

Hope it helps. Say hi to Jim from Paul next time you speak to him - he used to be Mid-Kent RO for the TVRCC until he emigrated, and he did some work on my old 350i which we had at the time. We also had a memorable trip to Zolder one year.

Yeah, just bought a replacement cruciform joint, knocked the old one out, pressed the new one in, a couple of spot welds on each cap and all done! Easy, took 1/2 hr!

That's good to hear. I assume from that that you got the MG one, or the TR7 one, now knowing that it's nothing to do with an Escort.

Don't know what it was from, just took the old one to the local bearing shop and thay matched it up.

I'd certainly recommend it, even if you were paying someone to do it I reckon it would be a cheaper option.

Yep, only 242 400SE's produced. Production figures are in the back of one of the publicaltions .... I have a copy in the house if you want a scan / page ref.

Ah well, that's always a good approach.

Good luck with the production run chase. I suppose that if you're lucky you could write to SmolOxley and hope to get a reply agterall TVR are still in existance, just. Failing that the TVRCC archivist?

Be interesting to know how many are left, also it's quite shocking how cheep they are currently seeing as there are so few.

Interesting but I don't think that 55 SE ACs were built ...

From memory it was somewhere between 2200 and 2500 cars across 12 years of production.
A discussion on here about remaining numbers a couple of years back suggested a survival rate of about 70% IIRC - certainly more than 60% but less than 80% anyway.
It's evident just from posts on here that quite a few cars have been crashed but probably most of those have been put back on the road; it's only the total write-offs or the early FHCs that are depleting the numbers due to non cost-effectiveness of restoring them.
I wrote in to 'Sprint' in about '97 asking where all the S1 FHCs had gone and the response was feeble even then.

Problem with prices is that nowadays the reasons for buying a wedge aren't what they used to be - they're not 'fast' cars anymore, the average family saloon can do 130mph and young lads don't want fast 2-seaters, they want 4 seats to carry their mates.
So you're left with us lot biggrin

It would be interesting to find out from the DVLA how many of each model are still on the road/not scrapped though, if you can that is?

Nice list but they have missed out the Early 420SE's plus the 3 latter 430SE's

AIUT they'll only tell you the number entered for MoTs.
