Diff breather puzzle

Trying to a fit a new elbow in situ (by feel) with little success. Pic (best one I could take below)

Has the elbow snapped off and left the thread inside the plate,if so you'll have to take the plate off and do it resulting in new oil and a new gaskit,or has the thread come out with elbow, in which case the new one should screw in before you put the upstand pipe back on,put a bit of ptfe on the thread though. I changed mine last time we had diff out cos it rolled over and broke off.

If you need a gaskit i have a spare new one so mail me if you want it,John.

Thanks for the pointers - it made me think the breather had snapped leaving part of the elbow in the diff - which proved to be the case. Funny because it was there before

Anyway new one installed now after playing a new game called dodge the falling wrench
