Just a thought and a suggestion for another possible venue, how about the ACE CAFE? Seems to be a Nirvana for all petrolheads.
No idea what would be possible with accomodation and who would be able to organise it but a worthy contender for the main day.
And how about an early morning tunnel run on the Sunday?????

I was thinking of a paintball weekend at my friends site..there is a hotel nearby and a pub..Although pitching tents and airbeds is fine,I will look into stalls for food and beverages throughout the day and night.iam going to check it out early next year and would like to involve as many charities..sponsors..and anyone who wants to help..This could be a yearly venue..The site is in colchester and its an old second world war airfield although the runway has gone (mores the pity)There is a car park for rolling roads but main parking will be on firm grass,Had a chat with matey this morning and summer would be best as the ground is clay based so will be well hard by then and there is alot of space, I will survey the local area and find attractions to go to,run outs and such like,There is a castle in colchester which might be a nice backdrop for some pics for mag features or possibly a saucy calendar which ive been thinking about..proceeds to charity..If anyone can point me in the right direction as to who to speak to about sponsors and such like i would be very gratefull as i will endeavor to keep everything affordable and fun,Even for those who dont want to paintball..I would also need dates to avoid as not to clash with other regular events,Thanks.. Much love..ziga

Comments. Well, hard to say. Not having been involved in any organising I hope this comes across in the right way and I am not going to have a go at people for something I have not tried myself.

But. Would have liked a few more trade type stands. The hotel is well suited but then that is from my point of view with respect location. Facilities are limited with respect that its hotel meals and beer but Stratford is a short way away. But more than happy to travel further if accommodation is reasonable. The hog roast is a defo good idea.

I am not really worried about a drive out, personally speaking that is. But if the opportunity of an unfettered road is available then it would be rude not to.

Dont like the idea of Ettingdon. You go to a car park of a hotel, park up look at the cars and mooch around some trade stands. Think you need an extra attraction ie motor/aircraft museum.

The best event i and my mate Barrington ever went to was when Andy organised a Duxford do some years ago, drove tanks, saw planes, TVRs, food, runway, but st weather.

Duxford suits me - only 3 miles down the road - barely enough to warm the engine up! (no Neil, not back to mine for drinkies all night ;^)

Regarding the trade stands last year, we did ask, even had some early commitments, but the general feeling was that the recession meant that there wasn't funding for the traders to afford to come. This should improve for 2011 - depending on the government of course!

At least ACT did the honourable thing and donated some prizes, so that's something.

Excellent, so Duxford it is with the bonus of home cooking around Adams.

We just need to organise the cheer leader competition for the same day.

Hi

Sorry to spoil the fun, but Duxford today would be a no no. Well certainly the way it was weeping!
We were fortunate that I worked there when I arranged all the Duxford events. Because of that I was allowed to do things which they will not let you do normaily. Like runs down the runway, BBQ, etc.
A day at Duxford can be arranged as just a normail club visit, which would mean just parking up with very little else! Also they charge for the privlege of allowing this!
Thats the benefit of doing BBWF the way its done, meaning very little cost to the "Wedgers" lick

The things I liked about the BBWFs are
Good to see lots of Wedges in 1 place and the Wedgers are the nicest people as well
I liked Ettington as it is central in England (150miles for me), it is very good price for nice accommodation
and when you need a break there is the sauna and pool facilities as a bonus.
The runs out are fun as are all the other organised events/awards etc on the day.
I have always enjoyed my 2 days there

I didn't like the Hog roast as being a tight Yorkshireman there wasn't much for the money
If the White Horse had been open we would have gone there again for cheaper beer and much better food
The Beer costs and service at the bar at Ettington need looking at as well
Otherwise generally a good venue as I haven't (and don't wish to) camp since 1989 (sorry)

I think the Sunday would be nice to watch some racing (Mallory was this year but a wash out)
and Silverstone isn't far away, although I do realise some have come a lot further to travel home than me.

Just as one to throw in here
apparently Oulton Park Racing Circuit have been in touch with the TVR car club to offer various weekends
This would allow cheap entrance to watch racing, private parking and camping(?) area and parade laps at lunchbreak etc
It was suggested maybe offering to single model organisers for their events and also to allow other TVRs to join in.
There was also mention of possible trackdays on the Friday (although most Wedgers wouldn't pass noise regs!!!)
Maybe this is one that someone may wish to take onboard. Albeit that it is North of Watford Gap eek
Unfortunately I am 1.5 hours away and very busy with both my own business and also as Deputy RO for West Yorkshire
and family so already have too much on my plate at present to offer

So if anyone else wants to take onboard then give me a call for more info

Otherwise I think Ettington ticks most of my boxes

Cheers
Trickie

The intended site is an old second world war airfield..R.A.F Raydon which is in colchester..The paintball is world war 2 based..There are many hotels in the area along with local events and on goings for the time of year..I will research as much as poss to find out what is worthy..Ive found some very entertaining stalls and rides to hire..Not sure about racing in colchester..The site is large and the grassy ground will be very firm in the summer..I should be going up early next year to have a butchers..Here is the site..its only been up and doing it a short while but is getting bigger by the day..There is more land than shown..Ignore prices as i will be fixing those with him for the weekends intended paintballing..cheers..Zig

SCH10 was at RAF Cosford, this included some time on the runway to do sprints (cannot use as a track as it is 'live' for helicopter rescue).

That was good as there is ideal camping at nearby Weston Hall (also a venue for classic car events). There is an extensive mueseum at Cosford too.

Re; Ace cafe........ chedder,
its my old manor, and whilst is great on a sunny day to veiw who ever has it booked for that day,(clubs, bikes etc) and despite the fact it has a bar, as well as decent food....it's not really (in my opinion) geared for a couple of day event.
local hotels are available, but of the Travelodge ilke, and again, not geared for a shant after.
Coupled with the fact that its in the Park Royal industrial estate area, leaving the cars over night would not be a good idea !!!
The london borough of Ealing has some outstanding boozers ("The Kent" off the Argyll rd for one) but not within reach or walk really of a comfort inn.
The Cars would be too far from your gaze !!!

Lets face it at ETT Chase, the cars stay in the car park and if you choose, you can have a swelly from the off (if your not on a run out)
It doesn't bother me, (the distance,) as thats why we have the cars .......right???

How about going to see the Ducheese !!!! (see what i did there??)

Hi peeps..Been taking on board what you are saying about these events and am looking into everything from food to entertainment for this possible july-august meeting at colchester..I spoke to my mate yesterday as regards to reinstating some of the old runway for burn outs and 0-60s but there is already a section which has been donated to a memorial so this for now is a no no..There is a new 0-60 rolling road that i was thinking of hiring, It will be a feature at oulton park this year i believe,There is a track at woodbridge which is a 30-40min drive away and i believe they offer track days, I will look into this as a drive out option,I have contacted the TVR club as to any help or info they can offer but havent had a response as of yet, Also getting in touch with RT,ACT,and any other relevant establishments to see if they can come to trade and sponsor some of the prizes..Im not entirely sure how much this is all going to cost but i will endeavor to keep it as low as poss without compromising on fun..I do welcome any input as to ideas and formalities as i have never organised something like this but am not perturbed by it..Obviously it does rely on how many of you actually turn up..I hope this can come to fruititon and be an on-going event... Feel free to email me if you have any concearns or contribution..Many thaks..Ziga
