Need help - has anyone got a photo of what the bonnet catch mechanism should look like with the bonnet up? Can't get my bonnet to lock into it at moment so somethings obviously not right

Theres a sprung lever at the front that is almost level with the top of the mechanism (well above the main latch bit) and I've a feeling this should be a lot lower....

Any assistance gratefully received.

Hah, Steve beat me to it (can't be arsed to move the van really).

Has the catch moved down? That it the whole assembly?

Steve, thats just what I was after. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately it suggests that mines ok so now I'm thinking what else is wrong...It all stemmed from when I took my bonnet off a couple of months ago to change the thermostat - b$ll$cks

Thanks anyway.

When you pull the bonnet catch to open the bonnet push it back in, if you see what i mean, then try shutting the bonnet.Duncan told me about it works a treat

I don't think the catch has moved or faulty having seen Steve's photo. Now I'm wondering whether I mounted the bonnet wrong when I put back a couple of months - I'm worrying even more that I may have shafted the threads if thats the case!!!

If what Steve suggested dosen't work try pushing down the locking catch, using a screwdriver or something similar, as though the bonnet has locked it and then open it again with the bonnet pull, for some strange reason this always works if I have a problem!

Hmm, I've tried Steve's and Andy's ideas but no joy. From what I can see the little metal bar on the bonnet isn't making it far enough into the mechanism to trigger the locking catch. The bonnet won't go down any further, as the rubber feet underneath are resting on the inner wing area.

Weird. It must be the way I've hung the bonnet but it seems to be going up and down ok...

Cheers guys anyway - I'll give it a rest for tonight I think!

Don't know if your bonnet is like mine but it only has two bolts to hold it on?
This has got to be something simple

Yep, its just like that (one similarity between a 350 and a seac at least!). Thats why I'm wondering if I didn't get the bolts straight...Spanners out tomorrow night me thinks with my apprentice (girlfriend) at hand for moral support

If you have been slamming the bonnet maybe the catch has moved and needs moving upwards a bit?

I'll check that out but I think I would have noticed slip marks on bulkhead - I just hopes its something as simple as that.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers.

Looks the same as mine but mine is an ass to close too. Does your wiper blade rub on your bonnet?

Mine does and I think I need to lower the wiper assembly to remedy?

Mine is no probs, no the wiper blade doesn't rub on the bonnet, maybe you need to adjust the wiper?
I find if i push the bonnet release in every thing works perfect

The wiper one mine 'touched' the bonnet when I got it. Nicely accompanied by the gentle thwack on each sweep. I turned it one 'notch' clockwise and its been fine since.

I find it easier to remove the bonnet for some jobs, only takes a few minutes. Putting it back I make sure the shut lines are even and the striker lines up with the catch nice and center. I also close it with a push now after a bit of paint has come adrift from my "gentle" drop

I've got a 2+2 FHC, and had to modify the car to fit the series 2 bonnet. I found the best thing to do was to put masking tape around the pin, and lower the bonnet until the pin just touches the Ford Fiesta bonnet catch. Lift the bonnet up , and adjust the catch until the tape is being broken on both sides, then you know the pin is in the middle. Then all you have to do is set the height.

What? You mean a 2" gap on both sides?

Old joke ... The only two man-made things you can see from space are the Great Wall of China and the shut lines on a Wedge.

Historical note: The original version had it as a Range Rover.

Geographical note: You can't see the GWoC from space. The only visual indication of human habitation is city lighting at night.

Chronological note: I'm out of here .
