Clonking and crunching...
Discussion
Hi All,
Now that the wedge is back on the road after its engine work, all is running well and pulling like a train!
HOWEVER, i took her out for a blast yesterday which was going well until...I pulled away from some lights (gently) and something went 'CLONK'. It did this again when i let off power and within a couple of miles was starting to whine as well.
I decided to limp her home and this continued to happed along with the gears crashing a bit as well.
So, i can only assume that the flaming gearbox has packed up...Anyone had similar issues?
What is the box? Doi get it rebuilt or another box?
I assume this is major surgery....!!!
SOOOO tempted to turn her into a Tamora!!

Hi Matt - I have just taken the engine & box out on my own. Had the gearbox rebuilt by CTS Transmissions for £500. However, before you start pondering on what to do try and get specific faults identified first and get a few opinions before acting on what to do. From my experience clunking sounds could be UJ related on the propshaft or drive shafts. As I said, try and get to be as specific as possible with some informed opinions before you act. As for the Tamora...no wonder why the company went best - it looks like a Baboon on steriods!!!
Make sure it isn't just the exhaust/manifold banging on the chassis.
I had to put a wooden block under the sump and gently take the weight. Then undo the engine mounting bolts until the engine went up a bit. Then tighten the bolts to stop it slipping again. The odd 1/4 inch can make a big difference.
