first wedge moment?
Discussion
Hi all,I've been thinking when my first wedge moment was and I reallt can't remember them during the 80 s or 90 s, I don't think I set my eyes on one until 1999-2000, so I bought it! Only really remember the Griff at London motor show.
I can remember Escorts,Capri's,Audio Quaatro and Thatcher etc but Wedges,nope.

Was looking on ebay for a convertible and seen a lovely MGB roadster. Then i seen my 350i i eventually bought i put them together, no comparison no rust 3.5V8 better looks pop up lights (i know but i wanted a car what done that ever since i was a kid) then i went on you tube and heard the noise the wedges make. Needless to say i bought the wedge and have never looked back since.
If i am honest thats the first time i had heard of a wedge.

Fittingly, this is my first post! Greetings to you All.
First Wedge moment for me was a blue 350i, hood down, full chat, down the High St. outside my secondary school at lunchtime. As it loudly popped and banged its way to a halt at the lights, I remember about 30+ of us teenage boys & girls all standing there with our mouths open! Before anyone could say "What the...", the lights changed and it roared off up the road. I didn't even find out what it was until I saw my next Wedge, a 390se (parked, so got a good look over), about a year later!
These two moments were all it took. I decided that I needed a TVR (remember that I was still only 17-18yo). Came home after the 390 experience and declared to everyone (mum & dad) that I had discovered motoring heaven and it was called TVR. To which my Old Man casually replied "TVR? Yeah. I had one of those back in the Sixties. Best car I ever had." WTF! It's in the genes!!
All of this back in '85-86. Saved every fecking penny I could until I bought my first 400se.
Totally unforgetable!
Cheers

I was a teen at school and remember seeing this stunning white wedge in our village and thinking it was amazing!
20 years (or so!) later and I bought a white 350i. Going through the masses of history I found out that, despite being first owned in Wales, it was the exact same wedge that was in our village, even though it had travelled around most of the UK in the meantime with various owners
When I sold it, it was bought by the second owner (who originally brought it from Wales to the south coast) who's son recognised the reg from the old pics his dad had.

Two for me: an old copy of Mayfair I had when I was about 13 got me vaguely interested in the TVR marque when I read an article entitled TVR - Travel Very Rapidly.
Then much later - about 1981? - I was watching the telly and the Motor Show was on. There was a stunning white wedgie thing on it.
Then about 1990 I was eventually the proud owner of my first 350i and haven't looked back!

Picking the 350i up then driving home down the M1.
In a torrential downpour that reduced visibility to less than 50 metres, then the screen started to mist up too!
A stop in the services to clean the inside of the screen and apply a fine coating of soap fixed the misting.
Having the tail step out on the slip onto the M25 was fun too.
The first track day at Snetterton made it all worth while.

Saw them in car magazines...but - like a lot of thin hsd a I lusted after - cool, but un-obtainable;
Saw an almost new one in a horrid chocolate color for sale ($30K IIRC) in Boca Raton FL about 1982-3... smitten;
Rekindled love via eBay about 2000... jilted several times;
Match made... finally
Not yet unfaithful but new secret love... a V-8

That now reminds me when a mate and myself went to pick it up in Sheffield how it was rolled out of the lock up gleaming,the cash in my pocket itching to jump out and thinking "christ, its mine",absolutly smitten.The guy had a 400se there as well which he was keeping in graghite grey i think. Seven 'thou' a gave for it after a blast around the block then likewise raining on M1 on way home it started to overheat,checked it out and topped up water and got home to wife and kids,the lad,8 at the time had a grin across his chops like he'd swollowed a coat hanger,and at 18 now its still stuck there!

Saw a Red 350i with a Tan interior cruise down the Esher Road in Surrey in 1986. I was standing on a bank looking down on to the road and the it looked the business and it rumbled by. I then went to visit the TVR Centre in Barnet shortly after and was hooked instantly by the sight and sound of those Wedges for sale....

Mine was when my dads friend turned up in a 400se just after my dad and I had put the ultima on the road. It was blaines 400se before he had it and went for a spin round the block.
I remember thinking "hells teeth that sounds good!!" I was 17 at the time and polishing my golf when he arrived!
Promised myself I would get one and bought mine 4 years later when I was 21! Amazingly I've had her 5 years in January!!!
Mattman,you got insurance for a wedge at 21! My lad passed his driving test last summer and did the pass plus coarse but coz he's a boy he gets quotes to insure a modified old mini at 3000 quid when a girl can get it at a third of that.

I am Barrow-in Furness born and raised. We had a TVR dealership callled Haughins. The owner of which was famous for the supercharged 350se.
So i saw wedges regularly and fell in love with the v8 rumble then.
My best mate at the time left school and soon become a mechanic at Haughins.
I called him to come take a look at my Dads car one day and he turned up in a 390se!
He took me for a spirited spin around the block and i was hooked.
It took me 12 years to get a 400se which i abused for about 18 months before i had to sell when i was out of work.

My first time I recall seeing one was late 80's when I towed a SEAC out of a Ford near Brandshatch, water was a bit deeper than thought and it stalled
Then a mate bought a 350 and I drove it to a back home and shortly after that purchased my first of 3 that I've now owned
Still on the lookout for another one oneday
