I have no swirlpot???
Discussion
When the car was at the garage the other day i was looking at the underneath and the two pipes that come from each of the tanks go into a two into one fitting and there is no swirlpot..I was under the impression that it had one..Most of the diagrams i have looked at have them...Is that right????
has on mine, had to buy a new one (ally) from RT as when i removed mine it was full of rust as the filter inside was no good.
New one comes with no filter, so a new "in-line" bullet from glencoe is fitted between pot and pump.
I don,t know about the 280's zig, but from what i hear the tanks on wedges don't have filters in either (as some cars do) nor internal swirlpots.
When i took the pot to enginuity in acton (as i was passing) they looked bemused to say the least when i showed them it !!
Enginuity is a Triumph place mind, but they were helpful.

Sometimes the hoses connect first and then go to a swirlpot having just one entry (instead of the T-connection on 'standard' swirlpots). Have one with one entry on my wedge myself (came with the car and don't know if it is original) and works fine. It is mounted to the side of the car and just above the fuel pump.
Think that you need a swirlpot, and either type will do. New ones don't come with an internal filter, so the general logic is to install a pre-pump one.

Sounds like you have a pre-pump fuel filter based on it being plastic, which can act a tiny bit as a swirlpot, but not good enough especially if the tanks are nearly empty. If you keep your tanks full all the time, it would probably be ok....
Original ones are metal and can rust, with all sorts of problems! New mainly stainless I think and would go for that myself.

Cheers mate...If thats the pump after the swirlpot then i definately dont have one as when i had a severe leak last week and the car was up in the air the feed from the tanks went straight into the pump..Would that make it harder to start as i have to pump the throttle to get it started even from cold..At some stage someone had the tanks out as when i had to replace one the other had a plastic coating and that isnt standard so perhaps it was taken out then..What would having no swirlpot cause or effect?..Ziga

One thing for sure is you should not have the feed from the tank direct to the pump. as there is no filtering, and your pump will not last long, pos only weeks.Kind offer by wooly zig, take it !!
Swirl pot holds an amount of fuel so's your not starved of fuel when cornering and such, which will also knacker the pump if its running dry.....and as replacements are hard to find (trust me) and my ally one from RT was just shy of a ton, .....you know it makes sense !!!
Oh, and check the fuel lines from the tank while you are at it....they crumble.!!!!!!

Cheers chaps..I will have a good look under there tomorrow and will take john up on his kind offer if it is definately missing..My fuel lines are all new as they were replaced when i had the tank from dwgriffith fitted..I did get a blank look from the garage when i asked him where the swirlpot is..maybe he did bin it..When i had the fuel leak last week i was under the car when he was fixing it and thats when i noticed the pipes from the tanks going into a two into one fitting and when i followed it along it was definately going into the fuel pump,I do have a bulkhead filter..The pump is brand new but is wurring quite loudly..Like the old one was..I hope they are not cutting corners...Zig
