Went and got new tyres fitted (205/60/14) and noticed on the drivers side that the top suspension mount that is part of the chassis was bent..sagging downward..Can this be reinforced or cut out and welded..What causes it please..Thanks..Zig

strange things happen to your car...

sagging down is unusual...due to the load it should be opposite.

so...and why you ask than?

thats exactly the things which happen fitting (useless) coilovers to a non modified chassis!!!

http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t... (please don't groan - hopefully an easy one)

http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t... over shock problems

and here a pic which will show your problem:

http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t...

peopel are fitting coilovers, without any knowledge in what this modifications results, nor knowing if its really necessary to fit coilovers.

on a roadcar, even with occasional trackday use, its absolutely NOT necessary to fit those.

Maybe im wrong again but they are the original shocks..(Probably not called coil overs)..Im not up on all the terminology..Iam still learning..sorry.I think the damage is either due to where it sat for ten years or the previous owner has hit a massive pothole when he drove it?

The picture is almost the same but mine is not as bent..

Zig, Comadis has a LOT of previous on here for being rude. Have a trawl through his posts over the last few years. He's managed to piss a lot of people off in other model areas too. We just ignore him now. thumbup

If that had been me posting questions and 'comadis' had started patronising me in that way i would have taken deep offence at his/its/tone and would very much enjoy a face to face with such a no all, jumped up bumptious git,i remember the slagging off it was doing to other members from months ago,in fact its been very quiet for some time, i'll stop there.

Cheers guys..I dont like to be rude to people and patience is a virtue..I know it can be frustrating when your trying to help someone and they are un-familiar with the subject..It was a little OTT though..Made me feel like a right dumbarse..I should be more specific and will try to think ahead next time i post a question..I do cringe at myself sometimes as i do forget to think occaisionally but this car is a stress at times and i think the worst..Thanks for being patient..Zig

Who is this chump...

Hi Zig

If the top mount is twisted it may be the good old tin worm has thined out the metal to allow the spring to move it over time with many bumps.
When you had a look was there a large coil spring with a shock down in the middle...
Looking foward to seeing the pics when you can.

FWIW the original dampers were Armstrong ones. They were painted a blue colour and were not adjustable. The springs sat on a large, currently unavailable, rubber moulding and were of a much larger diameter to those used in modified systems.
