Hi Peeps..My power steering pump keeps weeping from the front every now and then..About every third drive..I looked for part numbers on it but some were missing..There is a tiny ford badge stamped on it and i have searched and searched but to no avail..It is a Hobourn Eaton type..Although in the parts manual and on the site it looks more like the early RV8 type..Any ideas please..Thanks..Ziga

Compared to this one.. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID009023
Would the repair kit work on mine?

It looks only slightly different to the HE pump used on the SD1 (and Montego etc) but probably comes apart the same way. Can you tell where the leak is coming from? It could be the shaft seal or the O-ring that seals the body to the front plate.
If it's the O-ring (unlikely, more likely to be the shaft seal) to get at it you disconnect the oil hoses and empty the tank, then undo the large hex into which the high-pressure hose screws, then the pump innards should push out to the front (pulley end). You'll see the O-ring.
If the shaft seal is leaking it could be due to play in the bearings brought on by the drive belt being overtightened. Or it could just be old age wink

Never seen PAS on a 280, only drivers with big arms. smile

There's a website called oldfordparts or something similar....worth a try, or email them the code numbers and description ?

It can only be Granada MK2, Capri or late Cortina I'd have thought, if it's Ford.

Cheers chaps..It does look like the leak is coming from the shaft and only leaks now and then but when it does it looses all of the fluid..I was going to get the repair kit off the rimmerbros site and have a go at fixing it...Or just get another one..I did search with the HE code but nothing came up..Zig

Problem taking it off, your then have a PAS rack with no PAS, this will be a lot stiffer than than a standard rack.

best just remove and get it serviced.

Hi Mark

I will look at the wife's 280i powered steering tomorrow and compare it with the pump on my SEAC.

Failing that I might even have a spare pump for a 280i which being new may give me part numbers etc.

Hi Mark

As promised I have had a look at the wife's 280i and it might be your lucky day!

First pic the wife's 280i power steering pump which is different than your's it has a remote reservoir

Now for your piece of luck I have another powered steering pump for a 280i (Old new stock) which I got as a reserve for the wife's car and it's different and I think it looks like yours.

The last pic shows a old label which says Granada on it, makes sense.

Now if it's the same as your's I am happy to part with it for a few drinkbeer tokens.
