Hello,
I've tried Rimmer & Real Steel but they now only stock the high pressure version, which I believe is not the bet one to use on the earlier engines due to the intended high flow lower pressure. Anyone with any comments or details for a source of standard springs?

There appears to be a standard kit on the bay but they want best part of 18 notes, which is a rip off. My Cerby one was only a few green backs last year.
Regards Andy.

I've just checked RPI, but they don't list anything. Might be worth a call or email to them though.

TBH, depending on whether you know that the pump has ever been apart, if the engine has covered a decent mileage, it might be worth buying the kit - I assume it includes the 2 gears and a new pressure relief valve, as well as the spring. The valves and gears (and covers) can wear, depending on how regularly the oil is changed etc., and the valves are not unknown for sticking.

Try Land Rover or a land rover specialist parts supplier.

I've always found famous four to be good..

Thanks for the reply. This is probably good advice but at the moment there are so may jobs on my list I was just hopping to have the quick fix option. Taking a quick look at the cost of replacing the pump gears would encourage me to go down this route, but already I can see there are various "flavours" to choose from.

Suspect I would have to strip, view, then buy which is a pain. I'll wait to see if I can get a cheap spring first before going down this route. My pressure is OK but I just want piece of mind.

Anyone else able to advise?

Regards Andy.

If you ever do the job - dont forget to pack the pump with vaseline.

Reminds me that I had to strip my pump on Calais dockside once, to fix a stuck pressure relief valve. I sent some friends off to buy some vaseline, and amazingly, they found some quite quickly. Fortunately, they spoke a bit of French, although I didn't ask where they got it from - two guys together, looking for vaseline........

I think Wedg1e may have used one at some point, which caused problems (unless my memory is shot of course). I think it's a good idea, because the sphere shape will never stick in the bore in the same way that the normal cylinder can, but in practice IIRC you need to hand finish them to the bore to ensure a proper fit, which may not be very easy. If you get it run you run the risk of it jamming or being too loose, either way affecting the pressure.
