Hi all,

Can anyone please help with what goes where in terms of the return lines to the fuel tank on a 1981 V6 Tasmin? This is yet another casualty of taking the body off too hastily in a bid to get started on the restoration. We have the usual feed lines from each fuel tank joining together with a t-piece and running to the pump in a large bore hose, and in the same array there is another t-piece which has a connector for what looks like standard 1/4" hose. Then, on the left hand fuel tank we have a connector with a very small hole which accepts a 1/4" hose, and a second with a larger bore that seems just slightly too big for the 1/4" pipe.

^^ Left hand fuel tank. The right hand tank just has the filler pipe and the feed to the fuel tank.

^^ The holes in question. On the far left the connector seems slightly bigger than the fuel line used for the rest of the system. The middle connector accepts a 1/4" line, and has a very small bore, almost pin-hole sized

^^ What's left of the feed from the tanks to the fuel line. Left and right connected to the tanks, t-piece to the right connected to the fuel pump... what's the t-piece on the left meant to feed / return? Again, standard 1/4" pipe.

If anyone can shed any light on any of this it might just save my sanity - I just have too many connectors and too few fuel lines! Our car doesn't have a swirl pot, and has an accumulator with three connectors (from pump, to filter, return on the back). Many thanks!

- Ruari (on Shane's account!)

Fantastic - that answers the questions. Thanks Graham!

So what we're looking at is another t-piece (which we've lost somewhere) feeding from the distributor return to the fuel pump feed. Seems unnecessary to my way of thinking but if that's what TVR did I'm sure there's a reason (?!) Any idea what guage that return line is then? Because it definitely seems larger than the 1/4" we've been using for the feed.

Thanks again!

Hi Mate if i can recall i believe it was 7/8" ID & 10mm ID..The big one is 50mm ID and if you havent got the large one yet dont get one with wire showing on the outside as you will have a constant fuel leak...If you cant find anyone i can forward on a link if you need it..Ziga

Hi Ziga,

Many thanks, 10mm on its way! We have tube with fabric braiding outer - is this the troublesome one? What is best to get?

The 50mm (2")Inner dimension is the one that can be the bugger ideally you want one that has internal wire, The filler neck can be a bit of a nightmare as you have to line it all up before you tighten it up..Dont use samco hose for the join of the tanks or the filler neck as apparently they are no good for petrol sitting in them..Mine doesnt have a swirpot either and mine is a 1982 280i..
Just to confirm what piece of pipe are you after as if its for the pump its best to measure the spout i think that was 15mm..
