It works on position one, but doesn't complete it's cycle when switched off. Likewise, single wipe nudges the blade, but doesn't autocomplete the cycle. Fast wipe not working.

Is this an MOT fail?

Contacts in the motor itself? How to access with contact cleaner without pulling out the dash?

Its under the heater box which is a Dashboard off Job Rog could it possibly be a relay or the column switch itself?. Hope its not the dash off cause it is a B******D of a job bud. If it is the feared dash off i have the step by step instructions for removal here if you need them.

Thanks Jeff. I'll clean all relay contacts today and see which niggles go away. It the wiper relay in the panel above the passenger footwell?

I wish I hadn't lent out my wedge bible. frown

Hmmmm, I had assumed that this was the standard operation....

So no, its not an MOT failure, well at least not at the place I take it to!

But it does mean that Ill be in the garage the weekend AGAIN

The wiper motor's rather like the headlamp pod motors, the 'park' switch is in the gearbox (the pod motor started life as the E-type Jag's wiper!)
The wiper relay is only a timer circuit that does the same as you tapping the 'quick-wipe' switch.
If the wiper stops as soon as you turn the switch off it's almost certainly a grotty park switch.
You can get the wiper motor out without removing the dash, you just need to be as flexible as a Russian gymnast with hands like gary Glitter biggrin

Just had the same problem with mine, traced it back to a mildly corroded contact block where the wires latch onto the motor, quick squirt of plus-gas and it was sorted.
