You want a Wahl branded one, which is what TVR used - bigger bore I believe.

Bigger bore ones are a waste of money, I got a tuned 4.6 with standard stat, no problems at all, and im quite hard on my engine

If it over heats you got issues else where

Interesting you say that. I have suspected the same as many moons ago I replaced my big bore one with a standard type and have had no issues even sitting in traffic for hours on the hottest of days.

I fitted an 82 degree stat from Rimmer Bros and its absolutely fine on my 350i automatic where the cooling system has to cool the autobox too.

Which ever rating you go for make sure it has a jiggle pin.

And that it is installed with it in the top position.

For toasty toes - fit 88 degree stat.

Wrong way round, cabin is plenty hot enough.

Here you go - jiggle pin is the thing at the top that passes through from front to back - it's a loose fit. Something to do with allowing any trapped air to move. Always fit with the pin uppermost.

eta: brand is Wahler, not Wahl per my earlier post. German.

Wouldn't drilling a small hole have the same affect?

Yep. TBH I'd stick to an 82deg. version unless you have a heavily tuned engine and do track work / run in a very hot climate.
As Alex says, yes I suppose you could drill a hole in a thermostat, but surely the pin itself serves a purpose? For the sake of a tenner, I'd get the right part. It's not as if it will wear out in a hurry.

ETA: looking at that pic again, there is an arrow indicating fitment direction (up) but the jiggle pin is at 90 degrees to that vertical position. I would ask the seller why. Both of my Wahler's have the arrow pointing at the pin, i.e. top.

It would let water bypass the thermostat though, negating its effect.
