Recently my 400SE has developed a metallic ringing noise when up to temperature(and a fan belt type of schreech on pulling away but belts are all fine), kind of like rattly bearings (but disappears after a good blat),with the noise coming from the front pulley areas......last night i drove the beasty to work ,no probs as it idled in the car park ,prior to shut down this noise came back.....thought nothing of it and went into work

came out in the morning and there was a large wet patch under the engine bay (2' square) ...had a gander and water was dripping from the crankshaft pulley although i couldn't make out exactly where it originated from? The expansion tank level was fine and the swan neck full. Started her up and checked for any obvious leaks /steam but nothing seen .....drove the 3 miles home and parked up and had another gander(water levels still full)....nothing obvious.....went to bed and checked it again 10 hours later ,again nothing obvious

I reckon it's the water pump bearings about to give up the ghost any thoughts??

and
water pump price /suppliers/ part number / 'ease' of job to do info would be gratefully received

May send her into Horizon motorsport as they did a good job on the motor recently and are thoroughly decent people

There are different types, I got a new one and the gasket from David Gerald TVR who sent the right one, I'm pretty sure it was less than £97 as well.

Try www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ , and look on the SD1 area .

I got one for the SEAC and one for the 400 as they are different .

Suggested DJE as you could take the car there and get the right one. Sort of show and tell. Mind you, don't take anymore money than you need. There are some nice things on display and for sale there.

I paid £65 for mine (350i)at CAFCO. Job was relatively straighforward except for the bottom bolt breaking off in the block. A bit of a bugger to drill out, but overall about 4 hours.
