Just a quickie. 32" Orion (Tesco) LCD about 3-4 years old stopped working this morning - wouldn't come off standby then when switched on and off at wall, standby light disappeared too. Quick look inside and fuse seems intact.

I am sure these modern TVs aren't worth repairing but is there a good place to recycle it or is there a place where people learn about electronics who might want it.?

I have a Fuji F20 digital camera with a non-retracting lens too and it seems a shame to just sling them down the dump.

I think you'll find that is our thro-away society. Anything that goes to the dump will be smashed working or not and the valuable bits recycled. British Heart Foundation is a charity that will take TVs.

Stick it on ebay, always non working TV's, camera's & mobile phone's selling on there. List as buyer to collect.

Doesn't your home insurance cover accidental damage?

Sounds like the power supply board has failed, rip the back off, replace a few capacitors, bingo

Everything I "take the back off" is doomed. I don't believe I have ever fixed anything electrical in 50 years. It's such a bloody waste - you look at these things and the design is amazing and throwing it away consigns your soul to electronics hell.
