OK, so buying a set of unprotected highly polished wheels is a stupid idea, even in the summer.

My "winter wheels" are flaking their chrome left right and centre so it's either buy another set of winter wheels or try and make these polished wheels more practical. It's not that I'm lazy but cleaning the inner rims all the time can cut your hands to shreds.

So I'm considering having them painted, possibly in a sort of gunmetal or even black. Does anyone know anyone who does this and for how much.

When most of the current finish on mine has flaked off I'll be trying the DIY route to refurbishing them. Most likely in a dark gunmetel grey or matt black.
..If I have time

Been there and done that and it's very hard work plus the finish is nothing like as durable as the thicker paints they use inproper wheel painting. I had some Corvette wheels refurbished by Wolfrace when they used to operate in this area and they were really "as new". My efforts have ben "Soooo.....you did them yourself.." LOL.

I got them to do the viggen wheels, not a bad job at all, just get the tyres fitted elsewhere

I recently refurbed a set of alloys myself. Just got them grit blasted back to bare metal, then etch primer, paint and lacquer. Worked a treat!

Only problem was I did it outdoors and of course a few flies have taken permenant residence on the wheel now
