Is anyone going this year? I,ve really wanted to go for the last few years, and have just started looking into prices and availability for this year. Maybe we could make it the ultimate PHEA 'raid'. driving

What do you think?

We'd LOVE to go either this year or 2008. Never been before & it'd be great fun going as a group, even if its just a handful of people?

Hannah (using Scotts account but I'm sure he'd say the same...just checked he said definitely)

Lots of groups coalesce on the way to Le Mans - PHers, Car clubs and assorted individuals. Hence it might be an idea to keep an eye on the Events forum, or General Gassing, see what other PHers are planning, and join the party.

Right then. I have emailed some of the companies selling tickets to check camping availability, and have just received the first answer back.

Just Tickets (www.justtickets.co.uk) have camping at Maison Blanche at £82 per pitch when booked with 2 general addmission tickets at £55 each. They are not the cheapest I have found, but at least they have spaces still.

I am still awaiting a response from Race Tours (www.racetours.co.uk) and Team Langoustine (www.teamlangoustine.com) so will wait and see what they can offer.

The plan at present would be to travel down on Thurs 14th June and come back on Monday 18th. Ferry crossings can be had for approx £60 return. There is a map of the circuit here along with maps of the area and possible travel routes. This site also has the best info regarding other issues for the whole event I think.

So anyone else interested ?? I will have to get a booking done very soon as camping sells out very quickly by all accounts.

Last year me and my mate done Lemans for £109 each incl Camping, Admission and Ferry, that was through Team Lagoustine, I have booked again through them camping @ Houx Annex, the first year we went with Travel Destinations it cost £199 for the same thing!

I would reccommend going on the Wednesday as the campsites tend to fill up quickly on the Thursday so if you're hoping to camp in a group then it will be quite difficult to find the room!

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the info. How did you book the lot for £109 each !! Team Langoustine are currently showing £50 entrance ticket, £55 Houx Annexe. Thats £105 without the ferry. Come on tell us your secret!!

Are you camping at Houx Annexe again? Don,t think I will get to go down on the Wed though, so it may be a case of meet you there (if I can find you !!)

Split it between two!

Ferry £50 = £25 each
Camping £55 = £27.5 each
Entrance = £50 each

Thats £102.50 each not sure where the other £6.50 is!

Obviously if your not sharing a car its going to cost more! All Based on last years rates (Or the figures in my head at least!)

The Ferry is more expensive this year (assuming we use speed ferries) so I'm guessing £120 should be easy! If you get 3 in a car it will be cheaper still!

It did cost around £200 in fuel and tolls though!

I'm going this year for the first time! bounce
We're going with the Le Mob group - I have no idea who they are, my girlfriend is organising it all (she's a veteren). We've already booked the camping, shuttle buses, chunnel crossings, etc, etc.

We'll have a PH flag flying wherever we go - along with a few thousand others I hear.
I'm really looking forward to it, so come and say hi, I'll post up where we'll be when I know!

The main 24heures or Classic?
Annual event is very busy, mainly large male groups, lots of beer and noise.

Classic event, not so big, more family oriented, wider range of cars on display and track, pit walking event split into heats - but only run every two years - next one is 2008!

Having done both a number of times much prefer the Classic - plus the older cars are much more entertaining to watch.

Have put some useful links and info having done this ourselves a few times, you can have a great weekend really quite cheaply.

useful links:
www.lemansclassic.com/uk/index.html
www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/live/pages/accueil_gb.html

For those people interested in camping - can thoroughly recommend this site - we have used for many years - has camping and B&B (This is 10-15 drive north of the track)
They also cater for groups wanting to pitch together and are very helpful in getting parking tickets etc. if you didn't sort that out before you left.
www.chateau-de-chanteloup.com

They are very relaxed here.
Amentities include - toilets(normal UK style), showers, washing, laundry, freezers, games area, pool and restaurant. Fresh bread deliveries daily. Mini market in village and main supermarket on way to and from track. Also host special events/buffets to show off cars introduce some of teh 24H drivers and socialise. Gets very busy during events, so don't expect a lot of quiet at night, although way,way better than at the track.

Other items to remember:
Passports,
E111 cards
insurance and green card, driving license and registration doc (Good idea to also have copies with you saving having to part with your actual documents in the event of a problem)
Ferry/chunnel or other transport across the channel (www.aferry.to can give you idea of prices)
Nearest ports are Caen then Le Havre.
Toll money particularly if travelling from Calais

Suggested budget:
Basic ferry Dover-Calais return approx £75
Accomodation approx £20 per night
Tickets as per webiste - don't forget parking
holiday insurance (medical/liability and getting you home) £100
greencard approx £30
Fuel - depends on where traveling from and petrol/diesel
Tolls - £20
Food - however much you intend to eat £100-£150 for 4 for 5 days, more if eating out
Spends - again however much you intend. Prices in shops very similar to UK

Richard, I wouldn't leave in much later. I,m being told that camping pitches in the main areas are all sold out. I,ve found a few in Maison Blanche (but advised to book by am tomorrow or they will be gone), and at present plenty in Beausejour which is a long walk to the 'village'.

I,m still waiting for a reply from one company and also the TVR car club.

I,ve just rung the TVR Car Club, and their prices look the best so far, although she was only able to give approx as she is now sorting out the forms ready for the Feb Sprint magazine. They have allocation in Houx, Houx Annexe, Maison Blanche and Bleu. Looks like I,ll wait tell then and book. thumbup

I have spoken to quite a few people who advise me that if you are not picky you can turn up on the day and get tickets & camped no problems... you can even camp in the car parks after dark...

From asking around people who have been to LeMans, how can I put this, there's a better "class" of people and "atmosphere" staying a little bit further out. I for one don't mind driving there each day from wherever the campsite/accommodation might be. Don't really fancy beer bottles being thrown at the Cobra - I've heard the antics very close to trackside are a bit wild once people get drunk. Good for them but rather be with enthusiasts (still having a good time!) than those sort of people. Is that put delicately enough to satisfy political correctness? hehe

100% agree with ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

Thats probably the way I will go. I dont even mind a 1.2 hour drive to the site. I am not a big drinker so a booze free evening is not the end of the world.

Having spoken to a couple of organisers yesterday, it would appear that Houx Annexe is the area to avoid if you don't want 'leery' behaviour. The new site, Beausejour, is apparently very relaxed with the only down side being the distance upto the 'village' and grandstands. Having said that, there is appartenty a free shuttle bus service, and its very near the Porsche Curves.

I will more than likely book through the TVR car club, on either Houx (allocated pitch numbers, so no last minute scramble for a pitch), or Maison Blanche. Then again Beausejour may be an option. Choices, choices !

The idea of camping away from the circuit appeals to an extent, but as this will be my first year, I think I may take the plunge and stay on site to soak up the 'atmosphere'.

So Hannah / Scott, are you coming along??

I'm just doing a bit of research on best places to camp - we'll get the tickets for entrance when we get there. Appears you can do that no problem. Fitting all the things we need into the Cobra's big boot could be fun!

90% sure that we'll be going though. I need to speak to Scott tonight.

I don't mind staying onsite - just not on the most raucous site! Beausejour or Maison Blanche or Houx do look good - I'm in agreement there.
