I notice (amongst others*) the police "fatal accident" signs up on the A11 approaching one of the favourite spots Bryan Edwards and his merry band of highwaymen like to collect from.
Are there any details about this crash? Usually I just see mayhem from the panic braking but no actual accidents caused by the camera van, but it always occurs to me that the balance of probability is tipped towards an RTA.
Did this one happen in front of the talivan? I'll bet they soon packed up and fled the scene if it did.

FFS. This weekend I saw the signs on the Thetford-Watton Road, this one on the A11 and another on the Newmarket road nearer Norwich. What the heck is going on? Surely with the white hot Norwich Safety Camera Partnership making our roads safer this kind of stuff should be a thing of the past?

And the ones that were up by Easton roundabout. Also went down Newmarket road Thursday night. The following night I went down it and those signs appeared at a pellican crossing. This may end up being an excuse for more cameras and more talivan sites, because of course EVERY accident is related to speeding

P.S.
**WARNING TO ALL...The camera at the bottom of Grapes Hill in Norwich IS switched on** A policeman went though it last night, and it flashed him

Is that one just a red-light camera or a speed/"safety" camera?**WARNING TO ALL...The camera at the bottom of Grapes Hill in Norwich IS switched on** A policeman went though it last night, and it flashed him
the original one was apparently put in by the counsil ( the one halfway down the hill ).
but law stated it had to proove it was an accident black spot to justify its existence.
now i go past often and i have never seen an accident halfway down grapes hill!!! pmsl.
so they had to move it.
so they put that one down the bottom.
however, it doesn't look like the original GATSO one?
it looks like a painted "red light" camera?
i would say its either the latter, former or both.

It's a RedSpeed camera, which means it's both - a speed camera when the lights are green or amber, and a red-light camera when the lights are, er, red.Basically after years of wrangling, it was decided the GATSO on Grapes Hill wasn't exactly fair, as even coasting from the top of the hill, a speed of over 30mph could be acheived, so it was moved to the exact accident blackspot. Funny though, I've never seen an accident there in my 21 years

I remember reading once they could put a speed camera within 1.5 miles of an accident black spot....

I'm patiently waiting for the speed tax collectors themselves to appear in print following such a tragic series of events. They seem to be singlehandedly responsible for the county's road safety strategy, so where are they now? Presumably their white hot statisticians are running the figures and coming up with the precise mechanisms behind these deaths so they can halp prevent them in the futre.
They soon pipe up with their fantastic (regression to mean) accident reduction figures, sidestepping the question of how can they be so successful locally (regression to mean) whilst abjectly failing to improve our roads region wide.
So where are they? Any links to statements? Or can it be that they have no clue about road safety whatsoever, only how to fleece drivers going safely by whilst displaying the wrong number on their speedo.
Am I the only one incensed by this or what???

Has anyone defined 'blackspot'? One death/injury in 10 years or whatever is not a blackspot!
It's a genius plan, it really is.
Shame it doesn't make a jot of difference when the county figures are checked.

Yup...its a new "breed" of camera called a Monitron, so I read. When that camera was installed in the Norwich, it was among the first in the country.

Montron is the company that makes it. They also make Treffic light controllers and Pelican crossing controllers. I used to work there, I did a lot of work on the initial protoypes fro RedSpeed about 8 years ago. Monitron have been struggling with the Redspeed since day one, not sure if it is fully functional even now. The company went belly up about 2 years ago and was brought out by Peek Traffic, not sure what is going on there now but i'd be very surprised if redspeed ever becomes common on the street. its big selling point was that it used a digital camera, and your information was sent to the DVLA as soon as you were flashed, I also used numberplate recognition software.
We used to have a development site on one of the local... needless to say, we all knew what the top speeds of our cars were!
