Matt was racing at Mallory during the weekend, his bikes been out of sorts lately but now running as it should he was looking forward to the meeting.
Unfortunately during the 1st qualifying session Matt had a big 'highside' get off, ending up in the tyre wall with a large thud. He was lucky only to hurt his ankle, his race gear doing what it should. His crash lid ended up a real mess as did his leathers, his back protector saving him from 'those sort of injuries'. The bike was a bit of a mess, his mates rallied round and fixed it up for him ready for the second round of qualifying, Matt insisted on going out! obviously with a new crash lid and what not. I don't think he should have gone out, the bike got through scrutinering well enough but it was'nt his weekend, he had brake failure during the qualifying and had another big off. His OK apart from a busted ankle but his bike is rather secondhand.
Good news this morning though, his been asked to join an racing team, and they are sponsored (thank you Lord, thank you) So now start prep' for new season and should be better news ahead.

Ouch !! High siding has got to be the worst way possible to 'get off' a bike. Glad he's got away with it. Really good news about the new race team, is that in Superstock as we were taking about ?

My congratulations...it`s the first step on the ladder...I hope he get`s on well...your nerves must be shot as it`s scarier & more difficult to watch loved ones racing than for those actually participating who are usually having a ball..

Thanks for interest, off to the hospital now to see how he is, bit more than a busted ankle it seems?
Hopefully not to much as he wants to be at Snetterton in about 3 weeks time for more racing (no chance me thinks)

I understand that they will have a go at superstock next season. Half of me wants him to pack up and the other half for him to fulfill his ambition.

Must be a huge worry to you David. Having spoken with you about his ambitions at Rougham though, he sounds as if he has his head screwed on right and I,m sure he will do well. Hope he gets over his mishap soon, and back in the saddle.

Just got back from hospital, his in overnight and a CT scan in morning to see if they will have to operate. His also got pain in the neck so they will check his spine now. Can't see him being fit for Snett' but Matt is a quite determined fella, bl**dy stubborn too. Let you know when his back in the seat.
Transpired that the 2nd off due to brake failure was the fact that another bike got a little to close on the inside of Matt and ripped off Matts brake lever c/w brake resoviour, nice.

Sorry to hear that David. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. How was the scan on his neck? Nothing more than mild whiplash, I hope.

Saw a bit of the WSB at the weekend. One of them had a nasty off. It made me wince to see his leg bending the way it shouldn't eek
I'd be surprised if he rides again this year.

Yes just a bit of whiplash in the neck, but he will have to have an op' on his ankle apparently. His in for plating and screws so thats Snetterton out for sure now. Looking at his leathers which are only 18 months old and are not cheapo ones (cost over a grand)I see that a seam has split open from the elasticated waist area. Obviously this should not happen and we are concerned enough to now contact the manufacturer requesting an inspection of the leathers. On one hand it makes for a simple repair but a gaping hole in that area whilst your crashing is not what you expect. On the other hand his lid did an fantastic job of protecting his bonce, he took a heavy hit to the back of his head on the tarmac but remained fully awake throughout.

Poor old Leon Camier, a really nasty off which has left him with an very broken leg, I think we could have done without the slowmotion replay of his accident, quite sickening. Still expect him to be back next season.
