I quite fancy getting one of these for a play with to take on track and to see what difference various modifications make, however at £195 it's a bit pricey for something which I'll probably only use a handful of times per year.

Therefore I was just wondering on the offchance that some of the regional PH'ers might want to go halves or even quarters on one? I'm in Ipswich but will be back at the PH monthly meets soon when the VX is finished, which it pretty much is now.

I'm sure that even between 4 people you'd get more than enough time to play with it.

That's the SS version, not the RR one.

I find this hard to beleive, I may be very wrong?

How accurate can these be, how can they obtain such critical Data through a cig/lighter/socket ?

Scott, whats your thoughts on this, do you think its possible/accurate or just a gimmic?

They've been selling various versions for years. From my experience on forums where a lot of people have bought them when the older version was a bit cheaper, they all seemed to think they were pretty accurate and repeatable.

I had a look into these because I was fascinated by them when I lived in the states (yes, I know what your thinking, Jackanory! But bear with me)

There are various semiconductor manufacturers making small accelerometer chips now. I would assume this unit uses on of these. The chip will produce a voltage output directly proportional to the acceleration. So it you know the acceleration and you know how long it was measured for, you can do a bit of maths and calculate speed S: S=AxT. you can also find distance D: D = 0.5xAxTxT you know the weight of your car so you can work out the force F: F=MxA and from that you can calculate the power P: P=FxS wobble

you can work out quite a lot from having an accelerometer! As for how it measures RPM (because there are no other connections other than power) I’m pretty sure it must be doing something clever like looking at the noise on the 12V line and working out the RPM from that. I’m still scratching my head on that one, but its going to be either correct or totally out.

I think it could be accurate but it needs to be mounted well, and the ground needs to be absolutely flat. Also there are other things that wont be taken into consideration like wind resistance, etc, etc.

Clever bit of kit though, I wouldn’t mind getting my scope probe into one! teacher
