I need a small cover plate fabricated for my 'Swallow' its only a small job but will require skill to copy from the original. Mr Parrafanni of Attleborough could easily replicate the part for me, but I'm not sure I can afford his rates. Any links or steers please.

Is this a welding fabrication or a machining fabrication

Are you sure he's that expensive? The couple of times i've had odd things done by him i managed to get 'cash' prices.

Hi guys, the part will be a 'forming and bending' job, its a shaped non structural chrome plate which fits over the fixing bracket to the rear bumper. I understand Mr Parrafanni is the very best but last time I had an estimate for work it made me go weak at the knees! However, maybe it could be worth trying again with this small job unless I can find an option with more modest costs.

Might be worth trying Damico 01953 717784 (Roudham Heath ind est) He mainly does engine builds and associated machining work

There is a place in Thetford that still does chrome plating shout if you need details of that

Thanks Ian, just had some chrome work done in Thetford (J.D. Wyatt,Precision engineering)he made an excellent job of my bumpers and other bits. It was he who suggested that this cover plate was past its sell by date and did'nt chrome plate this bit for me. After the prep' work it was so thin with pin holes appearing! Hence replacement time, still its lasted 77 years so I can't knock it biggrin

Have you got a pic? I'm intrigued, I guess the original would've been a stamped pressing job, so possibly a bit tricky to duplicate.

Cheers,
Rob

You need to host them on another site such as photobucket or Uncle Dave:
http://ph.uncle-dave.co.uk/upload/
then link to them using [ img ] or [ pic ] tags in your PH message, not brill, but I guess it saves a lot of PH server space and of course additional strain on the poor old servers!

Cheers,
Rob

Do they do alloy polishing as well, or are they just platers....?

J.D.Wyatt DO NOT chrome plate, but what they do is prepare the work for plating, which they do very well indeed, and then send it off for the plating work. I do not know who they use for the chrome plating. May be worth mentioning that I waited around 12 weeks for my work to be ready for me to collect after an estimate of 5 weeks for the job. OK if the components are not time critical to you. I am not knocking the Company, thier work is very good and as such they have an full book. I pestered them for my work to be completed and feel it was well worth the time and minor irritation of the wait.

Brady Fabrications in Bicester is full of ex-F1 fabricators. A guy that I spoke to worked for Brabham, then March/Leyton House March and when they went under, Mr Brady took him on as a fabricator, when I was there he was making brake ducts for an original GT40.
