After the disappointment of the Snetterton trackday being cancelled the other day and no more track action there until next feb.

Me and a few other are probably popping down to RAF Woodbridge for a sprint event on 12th Dec.
It is a timed sprint of around a mile around part of the airfield although times are only displayed for the driver and not recorded. It is intended for practice and not competative.

That is not to say that groups of people can honestly remember their times and compare their runs and compare times with others.

May be good for a laugh as i have not done a sprint. Anyone else up for it. It is just £69!!!

Weather could be interesting, but i have beenn assured by the organisers that they have a procedure for cancellation/early closure.

We could have a little Pistonheads league just for fun and even FWD, RWD and AWD classes.

Who is interested. It is with Javelin. Already some interesting entrants.

Thanks for the heads up. I am aware of the regs for sprinting. As i stated, this is a practice, not a formal sprint and is not competative so is open to all.

I did one of these a couple of years ago at Woodbridge with Javelin. It was a good bit of fun and well worth £65.

Hi Eddy,

Wendy and me are down for this, Wendy will be taking her Mini GP, and I will either be in the Porsche or a new little Toy.

Two of my boys (Simon & Martin) will also be there, first track event for them so I guess I'll be coaching LOL

Look forward to seeing you there, this is a good value event open to Novices and experienced. Great opportunity if you have never been track driving before (good place to start) and the track is normally swept so no damage from flying stuff.

Hi

Thumbs up to Javelin. What a good day. I actually prefer the sprint format to a track-day. There's almost zero chance of having someone-else hit you. And I came to relish the challenge & discipline of having to get a fast lap together to improve on my previous times. In my Caterham supersport I got down to my target time. Nice to chat to lots of like-minded petrol-heads too and see their variety of cars from stripped Metros to Vantage, and group N EVOs.

cheers
Roger

It was a really good day and I'd definitely like to do another.

It was the first airfield style day that I'd ever done so that took a bit of getting used to in its self (I have to say, I much prefer a real track), but I felt that it worked well.

The timing element was really interesting. On a normal track day you only get the feeling that some laps are quicker than others, but on Sunday I was really interested to see that some runs which felt slower to me were actually quicker and vice-versa!

My car did alright and I was quite happy with the times I achieved, they were nowhere near the best, but with only 120BHP, standard suspension and road tyres, I was never expecting to top the charts wink

Oh, and a quick note about posting times, I asked Javelin what the stance is and they told me;

Hi Seb

Thanks for asking. I would prefer it you didn't.
Reason - The event was well received but only came about because of a certain set of circumstances. We are very wary of things being misinterpreted in the public domain. Ie someone getting the impression we allow timing on our "Trackdays" which we do not.

Kind Regards

Yes, a good day with no dramas from my little group apart from the Metro dragging a cone for a few yards lol.

No Seb, an airfield trackday event is rarely as good as a proper circuit, but are usually good value. This sprint practice event was still good fun though.
