The mix of drivers, some who drive at 100mph + and some that drive at ~ 40mph and each's ability to look further than the end of their bonnet!!!
Don't get me wrong there are plenty of drivers that can drive properly at speed, the problem being it just takes one who can't and it all goes wrong, some times quite badly wrong!!!!
Just ask Furry about trying to close the M3 N/bound just after junc 3 in the middle of the night by hand as your car is protectIng two cars that have smashed together!!! If the drivers barreling down to him had lifted there vision they would have seen the lights across the barrier as the carriageway bears around to the offside!!!! Unfortuantly most didn't :-(

I got caught up in that, this morning, along with a few others too I'm sure.
There was a car on it's side, right up against the central barrier, with a trailer attached (on it's side).
There was also what looked like an engine block on a palette in the middle of lane 2; and a selection of cars (about 3 or 4) which were all involved in some way.
It was right where the end of the slip road joins the main carrageway. So I'm only speculating here, but I'd suspect that the trailer was towing the engine block, and perhaps someone on lane 1 was waiting for the car to pass, and as soon as he did, pulled out onto lane 2, and into the side of the trailer (not realising it was there).
Lots of assumptions there, but seeing how impatient LOTS of people are when joining the M3 at that point I'm not suprised there are more there.

I reckon its the idiots who insist on bombing down the north bound fast lane half asleep at 7.00 am then suddenly realise they are in the zone for the M25 slip road and cut across all the lanes at the last minute regardless of whether there is any traffic in the way. Why people can't just accept that they missed the junction and carry on to Sunbury Cross is beyond me.
On the otherhand, if you mean the south bound carriageway there is the situation where the traffic from the M3 merges with the M25 at a so-called 50mph which is a bit awkward anyway, followed by the end of restricted zone grand prix start where everyone floors it. That could cause a few spins especially in the wet.

On the otherhand, if you mean the south bound carriageway there is the situation where the traffic from the M3 merges with the M25 at a so-called 50mph which is a bit awkward anyway, followed by the end of restricted zone grand prix start where everyone floors it. This reminds me of the channel 4 advert for channel 4 when the Mercedes cuts in front of the camera car, locking wheels to just make the exit from M3 to the M25. Suprised at how this bad piece of driving has featured for so long on TV!! I'm not sure why they made the 50 limit permanent. Was up in that area today.Made what turned out to be a lucky decision of getting off the M25 simply as I was bored of it! I cut across country and went over the M3 some time later and saw this..

Traffic was back for miles as I rejoined the M3 going North some time later and the queue on the M25 to join the M3 was just as bad.I was trying to work out why some people are happy to sit a mile+ away from the exit they want, in stationary traffic.It must have taken an absolute age just to get off the M25 on that slip road, yet there were hundreds of people just sat there waiting!

slowing down from 40 to near standstill and this rsole in a silver focus swaps from lane 2 to the off slip for M25 and takes up what remains of my stopping space.
I had to jam on full brakes in the 10 tonner to avoid ramming the twunt.
It's a shame the traffic did not stay still for more than 20 seconds as was ready to jump out and ram his face into the steering wheel.
