Waitrose Maidenhead and Reading

If anyone happens to be shopping at Waitrose in Maidenhead, or Reading (Oxford Road) during the month of June, then please remember to grab a handful of the green tokens at the tills and stick them in the Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue (SEBEV) box on your way out

I've seen the green token things in Waitrose (Yately) and never really known what they are for. What do I do with them?

On your way out the door you'll see 3 huge transparent plastic boxes. Each of the 3 are local charities, etc. The idea being that you stick your green token into the box that you think deserves a donation.

At the end of the month, Waitrose then count out the tokens and donate a value to the charity, based on the volume of tokens.

Does this scheme not operate at the Wokingham branch? Or is it just that the SEBEV boxes are at Maidenhead & Reading?

I've never really given much thought to which box the tokens go in at the Maidenhead Waitrose however I shall take your steer and deposit them accordingly!

It is not based on spending. I think it is supposed to be one per customer per visit but they are pretty relaxed. They always give the kids one each for example.

In principle, you take 1 token. Some of the cashiers do hand you one.

It's down to each local branch which local charities they choose to support each month. We're just lucky to have the great support of Waitrose in these 2 instances

Kinky, you'll be pleased to know I dropped by the Oxford Rd Waitrose yesterday.... the SEBEV box was about 4 times fuller than the other two! Hopefully some much needed funds for a fantastic outfit! You've assisted me at work on many occasions, keep up the good work

As for Fers post above, additional publicity for sure; and receiving the fund is utterly astounding. Although it is a very specific fund associated to associated hardware. We still have our priority of day-to-day running costs (so to speak). The kit will be a godsend, and of enormous benefit. I can't stress that enough (and the excitement behind it)
