Surrey Police, a question about the new tunnel
Discussion
I was going to ask this question in one of the Hindhead Tunnel threads, but I reckon that it would be as welcome as a fart in a lift.
What is acceptable behaviour in the new tunnel?
I want to do a tunnel run to "test the accoustics". Is slowing down followed by rapid acceleration acceptable behaviour? I won't, of course, exceed the speed limit.
Thank you for any advice.

I'm curious... If the speed limit reduced whilst you were driving through the tunnel, how would they calculate your average correctly given there is only a camera at entry and exit?
Would it allow a certain time delay before reducing the trigger speed for a fine?
I thought that too, someone said if they saw you messing around in the tunnel they could drop the limit.. You wouldn't be checking the limit the whole way though as if it was NSL at the beginning you wouldn't expect it to change half way.Would it allow a certain time delay before reducing the trigger speed for a fine?

If the radar picks you up as an obstruction, it will lower the speed limit anyway
I thought that the operator had to check on CCTV and authorise the Speed limit reduction. I didnt think it was fully automated just yet!
I was under the impression that the same decision making tree was being used at hindhead that was used on the M25 controlled motorways section and also the ATM Motorways sections. i.e. A person sat at the desk had to authorise the change and verify the datafeed back to the control room was valid.

sorry, if that's true about someone at the RCC being able to overidethe MIDAS system for the M25 I think they need retraining!!!!!

Has a chat with a mate in the south east RCC, the system is not fully automated but has been designed to be at a later stage. At present all activations of the system need to be authorised by the operator at the RCC. sorry, if that's true about someone at the RCC being able to overidethe MIDAS system for the M25 I think they need retraining!!!!!
