Commuting from Newbury to Maidenhead...?

Any idea how long I can expect this commute to take me by car arriving between 8 and 9am?

I'm going to guess at 50 minutes on an average day (I go the other way fairly often) but the traffic can of course be horrendous some days.

If you arrive by 8 traffic will be negligible barring accidents.

34 minutes if all goes well, but bank on over an hour every couple of weeks..... Not that it's a dull trip or anything....

I would suggest about an hour on the basis that you will crawl from J12 through 11 to 10 and maybe to J8/9 too

I travel from Sandhurst to Newbury via the M4. I leave at about 7am and usually get to the car park at work at about 7:40/7:45am, however west bound traffic is usually lighter than the east bound side.

A4 is slow from Aldermaston Wharf up to jc12. You're then most likely to encounter problems around jc10 and then intermittent queues between 10 and 8/9, especially during spring/autumn on sunny days.

I was doing Tilehurst to tot hill services in 35mins last year, both ways.

Depending on where in Newbury you live could be a pain trying to get to the m4/ a4?

ETA - it's probably safe to add on another 20mins from J12 to Maidenhead if the traffic is flowing. If there's been an accident then write off the morning

Dern, I used to commute to Slough everyday and leave home at 7:20 and would end up in Slough centre for between 8:30 and 9am on a regular basis , usually nearer the 9am............sometimes beyond if there was 'trouble' I'll call you tonight....

Well, I'm doing Jct 12 to central Slough at the moment and it's taking me 30-40 mins. I'm leaving around 7.45-8am for that too. It is school holidays though.

The return leg is taking around the same. Leaving around 4.45-5pm I'm home before 5.45 almost every night.

Unless you actually 'need' your car at work, I'd get the train tbh; M4 J12 to J8/9 is generally horrible most mornings and the train is 45 mins to an hour for about £15 on a day return, and a lot cheaper with a weekly ticket I should think?

Alternatively, use a conveyor belt, nuke it from space and slap it up the OT...

Train might be feasible for that route actually. I would use the train to get to Slough if it worked out better time wise.

Very much the case. Half of Newbury will be heading towards the M4 (or to Vodafone) during the morning. The A339 running through Newbury gets very busy, particularly at the Robin Hood roundabout. Leaving earlier than the rush is the key here.

I live in Cold Ash so it's a run up the A4 to Jnc 12 of the M4. The M4 bit of it concerns me the most followed by the run in to the centre of Maidenhead.

I live in Midgham , quite frequently I travel into Wokingham, and that part alone can take 45 minutes at 07.30am !

Just to add, I've not done the m4 for a loooong time; so it might be better these days...

I've been doing it for 5 weeks now and I've been quite surprised by how good it has been. I'm preparing myself for the he'll once school restarts though.

An ex-colleague that lives in Hermitage used to use the M4 via Chieveley instead of the A4 to avoid the queues.

I did the opposite direction every day for a year and it took about 40-45mins. I suspect it will take longer going towards London, and there were definitely more queues in that direction.
