Help following accident please

Ok, I'm well aware that this is a massive long shot, but I have to try.
This morning on Oatlands Chase (near Weybridge) heading towards Walton-on-Thames train station someone managed to roll their car backwards over 3 foot (down a slope) and hit the front of my car, damaging the lights, grill and possibly front panel. He didn't even brake.
So he drives off and I follow, eventually managing to get him to pull over. He refused to give me his name or insurance details (which is illegal) so all I have is his mobile number and his registration plate. He is now saying that I hit him, and wants nothing to do with it.
I know I should have got all his details etc etc but as a small female down a secluded back road with a guy whose being aggressive towards me, I didn't see what else I could do.
I was in a blue rover mini cooper and he was in a silver mark 4 golf and it happened at about 7.30 this morning at the top of Oatlands Chase (station end), near the junction. If anyone saw what happened and can corrobarate, please get in touch. I'd be extrembly grateful.

I would take "He wants nothing more to do with" as a trip to your local police station
taking all your documents and make a complaint.

Also inform your insurance company about the incident and give them the details.

Check his vehicle index with AskMid database just to see if flags up as insured or not.
If you cant pm the number and I will check it for you.

I've been on the phone to the police, and will be going to a station tomorrow. They seemed very interested in him refusing to give me his details...
I checked on askmid earlier and the car is insured, but there's no telling if he's on the policy on not.
Insurance are next on the list of "to do's"

Yup... get it reported to your insurers and get down the police station and make a full statement as soon as possible.

Any CCTV in the area? Even if cameras aren't obvious, check with the council as you'd be amazed how much they cover - especially around stations etc.

Thanks for the CCTV idea, I (rather stupidly) hadn't thought about that
I've been to the police station today and they're going to trace the registered keeper of the car and try to find out who was driving... to be honest I won't be surprised if they 'don't remember'. The police are also looking into the fact that he drove off, making me follow him, and that he refused to give me details. At least I can be comforted that I'm giving him some hassle back now I suppose, even though I suspect nothing will come of it.

Just a quick update for those that are interested. I got a letter from the Police today telling me that no further action is going to be taken against the guy who hit me, drove off and then refused to give me his details. You could say that I'm a little annoyed.
In the past I've had good experiences with regards to the police, and I've found most of the officers I've spoken to very helpful. So this decision, and them giving me his details (and therefore him mine I assume, even though they said it was "a good job" he didn't have my address) disappointing. I do understand that their hands may be tied on what they can and can't do, so I'm now just trying to decide whether to write it off as one of those life lessons, or to take it up with the police and try and find out why they aren't pursuing it (I have texts from the guy in question pretty much admitting that he refused to give me his details).

Sorry, rant over! On the plus side no one was hurt, the damage could have been a lot worse, and the car has been fully fixed using spare parts that were rather handily found in my Dad's shed.

Lesson learnt - always get witnesses! Thanks to all those that gave me advice and tried to help.

Unless someone was hurt, that's all the Police ever do.

If you'd claimed on your insurance then they would have traced his insurer.

I've been so tempted to give out the mobile number to various people who've asked for it, but still managing to resist at the moment!
I'm currently composing a nice letter to his insurance company. As he didn't want to involve them I think I can safely assume that he hasn't told them (which could invalidate his policy according to the insurance company's standard T&C's) so I'm sure they'll be very interested to know that he hit someone and didn't want to tell them.
Phone call to the police is having to wait until I'm a bit less busy at work...

It may also be worth getting in touch with the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau) and reporting this, they may also be able to tell you if this chap has done this before against that registration number. They tend to follow these things up reasonably well from memory.
