Track-day helmet: where to buy around TV&S?

Chaps - I'm running at the Snetterton charity event in a few weeks and helmets will be mandatory. So I've decided to bite the bullet and get my own as I've been hiring them for years so probably paid out more than the cost of a new one!

So - where's the best place around TV&S or West London? Or am I going to have to go up to that big place by Silverstone?

FYI - looking for an open face helmet to maximize the hamster cheeks effect!

Not sure on places locally but Merlin Motorsport at Castle Combe circuit are cheap.

The car will scare your passengers enough, must you really go open face too

Motorsport Events sell them and have a selection at all their events and at a very good price too. I wouldn't use an open-face helmet on track though. The track instructors do but only because you wouldn't hear them if they had full-face helmets.

I got my Bell from a place in West London - it was a few years ago so will do some digging.

ETA: Place I went to doesn't seem to exist any more. I seem to remember it was close to Hammersmith.

I had one for stage rallies and it was a good fit, comfortable over a days use etc.

Ranger6 - You're thinking of Grand Prix racewear in Chiswick I think. That branch shut a few years ago. That's where I went. They have a big place at Silverstone I believe.

I got mine at Infinity in North Camp. They had a good selection to choose from and the staff were helpful.

Cheap and Snell approved, they will send you as many as you like via post and just send back the few that don't fit. They're an internet only company hence the multiple postal offering. I will be buying myself one in the new year.

Depends how fancy you want. I can get a good deal from Nicky grist on stilo helmets. Again if you do demon theives etc I have club discounts.

Open face are fine IMHO if rally drivers wear them. If worried go for one of the stilo with cheek guard.

Gpr at silverstone are good and you can watch me race at the 6hr this weekend

So given all my cars have airbags should I be wearing a full face crash helmet all the time?

Yes, I think it was GPR, but the shop was in Fulham back in the early 90s.

Kinda why I hadn't replied. I still think open face is better than nothing on track. Yes an airbag in the face hurts but if you have done that much of a crash then a helmet being open face is the least of your worries.

Definitely worth going to a store to try various helmets on (even if you buy online later). Sizes do vary between brands and some will just feel comfier than others. HTH.
