Best place to live near Slough
Discussion
Hi,
I have got a job offer from slough and thinking about relocating somewhere near to slough. I will be relocating from west yorkshire.
I am looking for 2-3 bed room house/flat. I will be moving with my family.
My budget is max £950 pcm rent.
I have heard alot about Slough not being a good place to live.
Thanks

I used to live in Windsor, its got a fantastic character and plenty of nice shops and bars. For your budget though it may be difficult. As mentioned before, plenty of nice villages around, try farnham common, and along to maidenhead. Up to the north near beconsfield and high wicombe could be good too.
Can I suggest you get on Rightmove sharpish? I work in Slough and you do not want to live there, believe me.
How far are you willing to commute? Rental prices have gone nuts down here, and your budget for a three bed will be tight.
Maidenhead is good in parts, Bracknell is good in parts, horrid in others. I can recommend Warfield and Binfield, which is about 12 miles, 20 minute cross country drive to Sludge, sorry, Slough.

My 8 page advice thread on the very same question. Twyford is nice and 20 mins on a very regular train.

I live there and it's a nice enough town. We are planning on renting our place out in the next couple of years and our plan is that it will go for about £800 - £1000 and it's a 2 / 3 bed town house. My 8 page advice thread on the very same question. Drop me a line if you need any local info? My lady knows the area really well and we will be happy to help.
Slough is about a 15 minute train journey right into the centre. There are also some fun b-road commuting options
We also have the best curry house in the area!
I live in Windsor - which is nice, but you need to put up with a lot of noise from planes. Other places you might look at are Winkfield, Bray, Holyport, Maidenhead, bits of Slough are fine, too - some nice victorian places near the town centre, Sussex place and Herschel Street - not sure what they are like to live in though.
North of Slough there are some nice villages, too - going out to Burnham and Beaconsfield. Other places are Wooburn Green, Taplow and so on.

I'll 2nd that!
We moved into Twyford when we got to the UK as only had 1 car between the two of us so the train was key - if you are in a similar state and need the train then Maidenhead/Twyford may well be your best bets for the budget (as towards London gets expensive fast).
Best place to live near Slough, is nowhere near Slough...
Easiest thing would be to decide which town, i.e. Maidenhead, Reading, Windsor, etc, that you want to be near and then ask on here about areas around that town? Also worth taking into account traffic in the Thames Valley - most mornings it's s
t. How long is an acceptable commute to your new job? Must be by car or is train an option?

Looking North is good (Stoke Poges, Beaconsfield etc) but you will be very hard pushed to find something in your budget.
West towards M'head, Twyford, White Waltham etc is also good and probably marginally cheaper than North, all are commutable and not far from the mainline to London.
You might also want to consider South a bit, places like Bracknell are surrounded by new-ish housing developments (lots around Winkfield, Warfield, Matrins Heron, Binfield, Amen Corner) - all fairly characterless modern housing developments, but in a nice area with reasonable schools, pubs etc.
Wherever you go there will be pockets to avoid, if you find somewhere in what has been mentioned as a 'decent area' that seems too cheap the chances are it is in the wrong end of town!
Good luck with your hunt!
