Takes 5 minutes to swap standard bulbs back in for the MoT. There is no MoT rule that says HID kits can't be fitted but left disconnected

I've got a mate with some Hid's up for sale if u struggle finding some. He only had them in his car for a few months but sold it now and took them out. There H7 bulbs.

as from jan 1st this year if you have hid lights the car must have self levelling lights
and headlight washers or it will fail the mot

well unless your mates the tester lol

MOT Testers' Manual said:

This inspection applies to all obligatory headlamps fitted.

Headlamps are not required to be fitted to vehicles used only during the hours of daylight, which are fitted with neither front nor rear position lamps, etc. (See 1.1.A).

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.

Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.

Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.
HID lamps may be identified by:

. taking a few seconds to reach full intensity

. having a bluish tinge to the light

. having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp

. having ‘DCR’ marked on the headlamp lens.
HID headlamps use high voltage and extra care should be taken when inspecting these items.

Ah. My Elise was tested 2 yrs ago. At the time there was lots of talk over legality and whether self levelling and washers were a requirement (my Elise had neither).

Tester was quite lenient on emissions as it happens

You say that but I should not be going racing in the sand as things are not that busy at present, but none of us are getting any younger and it's going to be fun plus a few other lads are going out to play.

A long time since we had to prep a buggy for a little racing so it's great fun.
